People have been saying that the Navy doesn’t have enough logistics and such for quite a while now. Trump refuses to listen to experts he disagrees with, which is where this this clusterfuck comes from.
This came up in 2017 when the two Arleigh Burke class guided-missile destroyers got into accidents within a couple of months of each other, so what nine years ago? Overwork and inadeguate rest were chief causes of the accident.
Pretending that the US Navy has the capacity to do missions it once could doesn’t solve the underlying problem. As @JRDelirious said, we want to still swing like a 600-ship navy, but without the ships.

I understood your intent. Maybe because i come from a slightly related sub-culture. 
And if, say, the new York times assigned someone to that project (as they did to documenting the number of deaths in the WTC collapse, which came out to be much smaller than the initial estimates) and published the story, the administration would sue them, and it would be a very expensive story to run.
I have zero military experience. But i know that logistics is something the military is (supposed to be) extremely good at. The army marches on its stomach, and all that. And i know that private industry is happy to snap up retired officers because they are expected to be good at running things.
So when i read that the ship is running out of necessities, i think, “someone fucked up”. My guess is that it’s at the hegseth level, and I’d be shocked if it were at the carrier level. But someone fucked up.

How much they can or can’t hide the total is something I’m not qualified to quantify. But the “official” number of dead in the WTC was about twice the number the NYT ultimately documented. An official total can be off by a lot and it’s hard to prove. Obviously, they can’t hide the individual deaths, each of which will get some local press/social media reporting.

That’s a really good example. And there are experts who are really good at it at the level of “keeping a standard aircraft carrier running”. It’s freaking hard, and you need experts and fast computers, but there are people who can do it to a certain level. And the navy is supposed to be able to solve this problem. If they are running scenarios that are too hard for them to “solve”, then there’s a serious problem with the decision-making to run those scenarios. Like … Maybe we shouldn’t have invaded Iran without planning to actually, you know, execute on the war effort.
Camp Lemonnier is more of an airbase/ground forces base than anything else from what I’ve read.

No doubt. It’s already a standard talking point among the MAGAs on Facebook that the sailors on the Lincoln are a bunch of whiny pansies who can’t take a few hardships, didn’t realize that being in the military isn’t always fun, and should all be thrown overboard by any “real” sailors who are still there.

This is not a pair of skyscrapers that pancaked onto thousands of mangled bodies, destroying human resource records and potentially catching random passersby, tourists, and of course first responders in the process (to say nothing of the passengers engulfed in a ball of fire on top of everything else).
The military has databases on databases of its servicemembers. These people are part of units that will still exist, tracked by the many databases that will likewise still exist. They will still be getting paid tomorrow if no one records that they died. And if they stop getting paid but no one bothers to tell anyone why, people will notice that too.
These are simply not things that can be hidden. Misclassified as to the nature of the conflict (or lack thereof)? Sure. But just completely hidden, times several hundred? No. People would notice. Kind of like how they noticed when the regime decided to reclassify a handful of deaths as not war-related because they happened during the so-called “cease fire.”
It’s fucking stupid and you should be ashamed to be giving even the slightest credence to this kind of conspiratorial thinking.

The flaw being that if they did that, they couldn’t protect ships going through the Straight? Apparently they can’t do that where they are, either, to judge from all of the folks saying that supply ships can’t get to the carrier.
The military knows, if it wants to. But accounting is work. (I’m an actuary, i have to deal with accounting.) Just because you have the data doesn’t mean any one person knows the total.
And we already know they are lying:
Are there hundreds are extra dead that we don’t know about? I doubt it. Are there hundreds of extra injuries we don’t know about? Almost certainly. (And the military has that number, too, if they want it. It’s just a lower-profile number.) Are there more dead service members than has been reported? I’m not taking bets.
And I’m not ashamed to doubt this administration, which is the ultimate keeper of the data. Not even a little bit.
