They could have sent a ship full of supplies there. That’s what they usually do for long deployments, and it’s what they would have done if the top brass weren’t telling them not to because the operation is almost done.

20 cents of every dollar I play in federal taxes goes to the military. That’s about 50 times what citizens of other countries pay. And, somehow, it’s not enough to provide a clean toilet for our service people to poop in each morning - that’s sometimes the high point of my day.
Yeah but have you considered how cool our military industrial complex is? Pew pew kaboom kaboom! We have the best missiles and the worst toilets.
No matter how tough or easy restocking may be, this is an aircraft carrier. It’s obviously getting jet fuel and spare parts. How are the pilots eating and pooping? The crew chiefs? The captain?*
*whatever happens, the captain’s career dissipation light is flashing brightly. It’s the Navy way. The brass always finds a way to blame someone not themselves.
The Navy should be able to solve it, in any number of ways. The fact that it didn’t is evidence that something is truly fucked up in our military. And it sure likes like what’s fucked up is the top.
What’s fucked up is that the administration left it deployed too long. That’s all. There’s no magic answer here, no great incompetence other than “this is why presidents don’t start nonsense wars that require leaving aircraft carrier groups deployed beyond their design parameters.”
One point is that the present day carriers have nearly twice the crew of a WWII version.
I am confident that the 15 minutes I’ve spent thinking about these logistics from the comfort of my own home make me more of an expert in dealing with the situation than the military personnel who have made a career out of figuring out ship logistics.
When MY shower gets dirty I simply clean it, what are these seamen even doing all day?!
What do you do when mold gets into the walls behind your shower? How do you clean that?

Are you telling me they can’t get a mold remediation expert to a literal airport? Just put a cleaning crew on a 737 and have it land on the deck, piece of cake.
From what I understand, the rot is significant enough that it cannot be cleaned. Think of a rotten apple. Washing the apple doesn’t get rid of the rot. Areas of the ship have to be disassembled and rebuilt. See my post 15 in this thread for an AI summary of this and see @Zakalwe’s post 18 for real-life details from someone who was there. It’s not that the crew hasn’t tried the simple solution, it’s that the simple solution has gone as far as it can go and now it is a larger problem than any simple solution can deal with.
Maybe the 737 can just fly overhead and make a “woosh” sound.
Working twelve hour shifts and hot-racking with other seamen, trying to sleep with the catapults launching day and night over their heads, waking up exhausted and depressed to face another day of back-breaking work, probably. Just a guess.

Not on a super-carrier. I’m pretty sure only on Subs and mainly fast attack subs and not ballistics.
Instead of catapults, I had the Jet Shop above me and the Steering Gear below. The Jet Shop was tough. Snipes & supply live well below the flight deck.
