USS Abraham Lincoln

Or an unneutered male cat.

His name is not Peaslake, though. Sadly,

The previous one came apart under gravitational stress.

The ship’s cat(s) is a time honored naval tradition.

I’m sure they’ll manage.

When I was on the John Marshall the whole berthing area smelled like ammonia. No one knew why and it was so pervasive there was no way to tell where it was coming from. When we pulled into port one of the guys in my berthing area was being transferred. When he pulled out his sea bag to pack, we all knew who the culprit was. It turned out his cat had pissed on his sea bag before he went to sea. He didn’t notice it because he was used to everything smelling like cat piss. If a cat can stink out a whole berthing area without ever setting foot on the ship I can only imagine what having one living aboard would be capable of. Leave the cats ashore.

I suppose ship’s cats were rat control, back in the day.

If they were at sea long enough, the midshipmen became rat control.

Also early weather warming, they are pretty sensitive to changes in barometric pressure.

I see that dog is a Captain. Is he allowed to fraternize with the lowly enlisted sailors?

It would suck to be outranked by a dog.

The way I read it, his full name is Captain Fathom, not CAPT Fathom. I do recall some Marine detachments that kept bulldogs who were given the rank of GySgt and were required to be addressed as Gunny. I would imagine (and I’m only speculating) that if Fathom is indeed a Navy Captain he is probably assigned to the chaplain corps and isn’t a line officer. Fraternizing with the lowly enlisted sailors is his job.

Keep in mind, in dog ranks Captain only equals E2. He’d have to make Admiral to be the lowest rank dog officer, and that’s reserved for Schnauzers for some reason.

But if he serves in dog years, does he rate for early retirement soon?

I should hope so with a 2002 day deployment on his sea service counter. His Sea Service Ribbon should have 5 silver and 2 bronze stars - I don’t think they’d all fit.

People are talking about the morale and logistic challenges aboard the USS Abe Lincoln. But aircraft carriers don’t operate by themselves. They operate in a carrier battlegroup of destroyers, cruisers, and submarines. Do those issues apply to those smaller escort ships as well?

Sort of, to the extent they all rely on underway replenishment (well subs don’t, usually) they will all be dealing with shortages. On the other hand, those ships are all easier to replace and the escorts attached to the battlegroup during a deployment will change during the course of a deployment.

From the article on the FF(X), bolding mine:

These 2 (or more) ships will have as little modifications from the National Security Cutter baseline as possible to reduce production time, with the main differences being the installation of a Rolling Airframe Missile launcher for point defense, the addition of an SPS-77 variant air search radar, and the repurposing of the stern boat ramp to enable carriage of containerized payloads.

Again, that should have set off huge red flags to anyone familiar with the LCS and its failures, and why it is having to be retired prematurely. The ‘modular containerized payload’ model of the LCS has been an utter failure and is responsible in large part for its failure to perform successfully in its designed role and its early retirement. That the navy is choosing to repeat this mistake, this time on a hull designed as a Coast Guard cutter, does not bode well for the future of the FF(X) being more than yet another 3-ship failure before the plans and the rest of the ships of the class are cancelled. It’s barely armed and is going to be incapable of performing its designated mission.

It’s there as part of the on ship mental health support.

I believe the tem you were seeking is Step on his dick.

There are two kinds of ports on deployment: Liberty ports and Working ports. Liberty ports are those where only the day’s duty section is required to be aboard. Working ports are those ports where the entire crew works their usual working hours and after “quiting time”, only the duty section is required to remain aboard.

Pattaya has long had a pier which can service Nimitz class carriers. Laem Chabong Port has anchorages instead and thus ferries.

It’s been bandied about in the news in a number of places, but I guess it bears repeating. The top leadership has already warned there will be severe punishment for those engaging in sex with prostitutes. The liberty party is also restricted to a much smaller area than in the past.

Another thing to remember is that, although much has been made of this being the USS Lincoln, that’s not the only ship involved. Carriers go nowhere alone. I think a fair rule of thum was the liberty party in a liberty port approaches 10,000 Sailors and Marines.

Many decades ago, a Sailor could get away with trouble ashore or even aboard ship. Today, though, it’s pretty much a career killer.

And the deployment is going to last a lot longer.

Nice violation of OpSec there, hubby.

Seriously. Talk about about a career-killer…

Perhaps it depends on how many journalists he’s invited into the chat.

Is this accurate? What kind of stone is this schedule engraved on? I would think this a good opportunity for Kegbreath pretend to care, and make a change that benefits the crew.
