Vacation in Mexica/Central America in November - stories needed!

This vacay is last week of October/all of November. We’re starting off with getting our bareboat license over 8 days in Mexico. Then we’re going to travel down to Central America for three or four weeks, specifically Hondouras, Belize and Costa Rica.

We’ll be backpacking.

Any experiences with these countries? How is boat vs. bus vs. plane travel? Do we definately need to go into the jungle? How’s the diving and surfing? Anything else you can add - must see places, must do events, etc.?

Thanks!

Costa Rica is great. It isn’t really a third world country in my mind and seems much safer and cleaner than Mexico. The whole country is like an open air ecotourism theme park. If you like nature, it is the place to be. Americans are everywhere so it doesn’t always seem as exotic considering the surroundings. It has good diving and surfing and I would go into the jungles. They are hard to miss anyway. One of my favorite places in the world is the very active Arenal Volcano with hot spring streams pouring out of it that you can swim in.
