Fringe ran from 2008-2013, so the series run was concurrent with the magazine referenced by Digital C. I don’t remember which ep the reference was from but it was shortly after the discovery that Olivia had been replaced by her alternate world doppelganger. (And I love any chance to use the word “doppelganger”.)
Can’t really tell who got it from whom or if it was independent invention.
