Valete, Vox Imperatoris

Perhaps, but were there two of them for Shodan, like there have been for Vox? Honestly, I can’t recall.

I think it’s obnoxious, but only because it’s in Latin. I’ve seen people busted down for using Spanish and French in their sigs and posts, but Latin somehow gets a pass. I don’t read Latin. I’m not impressed by anyone’s ability to remind me of that at every available opportunity.

Signoffs don’t bother me and I think they’re kinda cute. But uneccesary pretention really gets on my nerves. If I wanted to deal with that shit I would have finished my philosophy major.

Nothing personal against the kid. Maybe he’s just really passionate about his second language. I can relate to that.

:stuck_out_tongue:

apologies, I was unaware of this quirk…and while I do accept the rule I have to say its kinda funny in the pit.

These sigs that are unblockable are rude. I disagree strongly witht eh new ruel that allows them. They are becoming even more common and even more annoying.

Correct me if I’m wrong.

I took it as a line from Boondock Saints, and not as a dig at you.

Why not try that they are against the rules rather than allowing them? I am not saying that this should be a major thing for the Mods to work on, but many dudes would just go along with new rules, as soon as they knew of them.

What was the reasoning behind not just requiring a sign off be put into the signature?
That way those who do not wish to see it, won’t.

See post 30above.

I know that feeling. I chose my username because I was passionate about Latin, though obviously I attempted to keep the pretentiousness at a minimum. I’ve cooled down some, but I still reflexivly rebut people who say Latin is a dead language. Because it’s not!

“Duck”, says I.

I’m right in both theory and practice. The fact that you, and a small but vocal handful of others, are letting something so trivial irritate you so much proves your weenieness. Most people don’t let something so insignificant affect them so deeply.

You have confused the teacher’s reluctant permission with the teacher’s blessing.

I suspect that when you are 16, any personal attention from the Teacher beats none at all, even if the attention was generated by farting repeatedly at the back of the class.

It just smells funny.

Bingo. We said you could do it–that doesn’t mean we think you should.

Ever work with someone who slurped soup or snapped their gum? Now, ever try asking them to stop because it bugs you, and they say something like, “Well, the boss hasn’t told me not to do it, so I’m going to do it as much as I like”? That’s the level of irritation here; not super-irritating, but exacerbated by the attitude of 'I’ll do what I like even though I know people don’t like it."

I wouldn’t be judging what bugs other people, either. I would put money on the idea that you are bothered by something in your life that others would consider trivial, too.

:smack: Now I feel stoopid for my post #97.

You know, I don’t understand the rationale for this rule. It seems like socially irritating habits such as Vox’s signature are most appropriately dealt with by mass shunning.

Who, exactly, is going to be harmed by my writing “PosterX is on my ignore list”? If PosterX is genuinely annoying or obnoxious, it seems that I am justified. If PosterX is a good citizen, then all such an announcement does is reveal my own stupidity or intolerance.

I’m a little confused here.

Firstly, because this is (and always was) a stupid topic – it’s just meddling in other people’s personal habits/style/content/posting.

Secondly, I honestly don’t see how a one or two line signoff could be more distracting, or more superfluous, than the “Quick reply to this post” button attached to each and every post, despite the fact that there’s ALSO a quick reply box at the bottom of each thread AND a regular reply button. Nobody complains about those.

Thirdly, I see now that the signoffs are tolerated despite having recently been told they are not. But not tolerated with any enthusiasm.

This whole topic seems so weird to me. Those of you who find the signoffs unavoidable irritants, do you find yourselves stuck reading postage stamps and bar codes and other small, predictable, repeated markings?

That’s pretty much it: either way, somebody is being identified as annoying, obnoxious, stupid or intolerant, and that’s against the rules.
