Value of Pirelli Calendars

I have in my posession Pirelli Calendars for 2000 through 2007, in fully original or mint condition. They were passed to me by PIrelli marketing office. I am shipping them and have to put a value on them for insurance purposes - any ideas on the value or replacement cost? Particularly to a collector?

With the widespread geography of the dope, do remember to note your currency if you reply

For a layman, I’d say insure them for $100 U.S.D. As a collector maybe $250 U.S.D

Not sure though.

May depend on how you are shipping them. If you insure them for more than face value you may have a hard time proving that value in case of a loss, especially since they are relatively recent.

I just checked recent completed auctions on eBay for these calendars. Most of them never got any bids, or didn’t meet reserve, and most of the ones that sold drew a few pounds. There were a couple from the 1960’s that seemed to be in big demand, though. The 1965 edition drew 26 bids and went for GBP 549.

And FWIW, FedEx says that the maximum declared value is $500 USD for “any commodity that…the market value of which is particularly variable or difficult to ascertain.”

The best way to get shipping insurance is probably form u-pic or other shipping underwriters.
The worst deals and the hardest times getting reimbursed are generally from the post and freight carriers.

Thanks guys,

I checked out ebay - and only found one that was listed at USD100, the others were all a few pounds, which also doesn’t seem right if there are in “pristine original condition”

Asking prices mean little.
Try to check Ebay for completed sale prices.

That’s what I get for trying to post while eating lunch.
My apologies for the clueless post.

Headaches all round…

THey don’t have a face value, I would hazard a guess that its rare to have so many together in such good condition so must have value…

I am sending them off to a regional office for a charity auction - so need to insure them. Also need to come up with some sort of value for the auction description.

ouch

Thanks for the advice on “completed” items for ebay - I didn’t know about this.

Does anybody know about online collectors places that may deal in such items (and before you call me lazy I am using google fu to also look)

Why do you think this is so? Were they produced in very limited number? Is there an established market for them?

Valerie Pirelli made calanders?

Was this before she went to work for weight watchers? I figure if she had some from back in the Eighties they would be pretty hot stuff.

Huh?

Oh.

Never mind.

Tris

Er - because they are known and reputed for the quality of the models and are not sold retail and are in (relatively) few numbers. When I was working in the trade they were certianly sought after…

Completed sales on eBay show:
2005 for $39.90 AUS
2006 for 20 GBP
2007 for 53 GBP (with 7 bids!)
