Van Johnson dies.

BTW, the above comment is my own impression after having worked with him for a brief time, and no, nothing else happened, so feel free to take my opinion with a grain of salt. No need to upset people’s mothers with the news…

That’s a shame, though he did have a good long life. He was understated, very attractive, charming as hell, and just … oh, yummy. I first ‘met’ him on I Love Lucy, where he and Lucy had that delightful performance of “How About You?” – a timeless song I’ll always associate with that pair. They seemed to float together.

Then there’s The Caine Mutiny, an excellent interpretation of a tough role. It’s funny, I used to sympathize with Jose Ferrer’s character, but as I grew older I started preferring Johnson’s POV. I need to see it again to figure out which way I tilt these days.

Anyway, goodbye, golden boy. In my mind you’ll always be graciously, gracefully, twirling Lucy in that fabulous Hollywood club.

Good night, Mr. Douglas. I hope you’ve found your way back to Brigadoon.

:frowning:

I am not discounting your impressions. I never met the guy so who am I to say. Its just that the way you wrote that makes it seems to minimalize his marriage. From your post I expected to find out he had some quick studio marriage like Rock Hudson. He was married for 21 years. Maybe it was a sham, I don’t know.
