Van lifer goes missing on cross country trip with fiancee

OCD doesn’t necessarily translate to cleanliness. A lot of hoarders have OCD but not the cleaning type.

Lived next to a woman who was OCD, but her opinion of cleaning was “NO! Don’t pick any of that up, it BELONGS right there!”

It makes sense that there are messy OCD people but I thought she mentioned something about cleaning in the video as if it were a point of contention.

This is going to be annoyingly vague, for which I apologize but I don’t remember the name of the show or the person. Maybe half an hour ago I saw part of an interview on a cable TV station I don’t usually watch with that real guy who chases real criminals for his TV show (not the bounty hunter, you’d recognize the face and voice) who closed by saying something like “maybe he’s committed suicide, that’s a good thing for killers to do.” Not those exact words and not that clear-cut, and then he started trying to qualify it, but it’s clear that he (like many here) have convicted this guy in his mind. Only he did it on national TV.

If they do catch Laundrie alive, and if they have enough evidence to charge him, I hope he can get a fair trial.

Of course, the annoying part if he is already dead is that we will never know exactly what happened. There is only so much you can do with forensic evidence but no eyewitness or participant testimony.

It was this douche on CNN

https://www.google.com/search?client=ms-android-comcast-us-revc&q=John+Walsh&stick=H4sIAAAAAAAAAONgVuLUz9U3MKwsMy56xGjCLfDyxz1hKe1Ja05eY1Tl4grOyC93zSvJLKkUEudig7J4pbi5ELp4FrFyeeVn5CmEJ-YUZwAA8hyVblEAAAA&biw=360&bih=630&dpr=2

Why is John Walsh a douche? His daughter was murdered; he empathizes with the parents of murdered children - and he’s the douche? What universe am I living in?

It was his son.
And he and John Langley have done more to promote bad cops just “doing their jobs” than any one else in America.

I’m beginning to believe Brian Laundrie got help leaving that area. Maybe a family member or close friend gave him a ride.

I don’t think Laundrie has any outdoor training. He was hiking out West in flip flops. He needs support from someone. A house to hide in and food.

He may be hanging from a tree in the swamp. I don’t believe he would go far. Parked the car and walked a few hundred yards and found a suitable tree branch. The searchers should have found him day 1.

That’s the guy. Thanks for tracking it down. It wasn’t CNN that I was flipping by, it was a show called Banfield on some 3rd tier news network.

He’s a douchebag in this case because of the way he presents himself and the things he says about it and about Laundrie and his parents. Now he’s going to go out and catch the guy where all the law enforcement agencies have failed. He’s known all along, he says, that it was murder and that Laundrie is guilty. He appeals to the armchair detective who thinks they know more than anyone else. I haven’t watched him in years, I thought he was better than that, but I guess I was wrong.

Do note the issue can go the other direction. OCD can lead to hoarder-type stuff. Or, in my case, cleaning causes so much anxiety (as I can never get things perfect) that I hate to do it.

Sounds like John Walsh. The guy has long struck me as being a pompous dick. I mean, I’m sorry his kid was murdered and mutilated, and John Walsh has done some good in the world, but there’s a nasty streak in the man, too. Not a man I’d want on any jury.

Are you sure you have the right guy? His son was murdered. He’s helped catch a lot of bad guys. He’s also a dick. I base that on two things: one, some of his public statements, and two, my spouse’s opinion, as he actually met Walsh.

Walsh is like everyone else - a mix of bad and good. He could be excellent as a victim advocate and helping to find horrible people AND still be a douche in personality.

I was getting him mixed up with the father of Polly Klaas, but yeah, I remember who John Walsh is. If I had a child that got murdered I’d probably have a pretty jaundiced view of people who murder children - and Gabby is barely an adult. I obviously think he should have his day in court but people convict others in their heads all the time - not the first person to do this

I don’t know why authorities are making it a point to say Laundrie is not a “suspect”. The term has no real legal meaning other than (maybe) some Miranda implications and he has already made it clear he isn’t going to talk. Of course, he is a suspect. Based on all the circumstances, he is the prime suspect and unless there is more we don’t know, the only suspect.

Here’s the thing: if I convict someone in my head it pretty much doesn’t go beyond me. John Walsh has a national pulpit, if he convicts someone in his head everyone hears about it, and there will be people who follow his lead because he’s on TV and famous. The impact when he does it can be a lot more significant than when you or I do it.

I agree he probably shouldn’t do it generally, but in this case, I think it’s obvious what happened.

“Obvious” in the sense of reading media stories isn’t good enough when it comes to an actual murder trial. There should be actual proof. There are numerous examples of people who appeared “obviously” guilty of a crime to someone who were later exonerated.

Admittedly, it’s not looking good for Laundrie, but you and I don’t have access to the same information the authorities do.

In case he is out there watching TV somewhere and hears that he isn’t a suspect, he might decide to quit running and come back. He would have to have an IQ lower than his age to believe that, but why not roll with it?

This is a mild exaggeration. I know a guy who has done overnight camping in the Florida Everglades by canoe, five day trips with map and compass. Yes, mosquito repellent is important, as is a permit if you’re camping within the national park.

The most difficult part for him was finding someone to go with him (I declined).

Fair point. If someone is experienced like your friend and takes the proper gear with them, then it is an adventure, even if IMHO a very miserable one. But this kid supposedly just wandered in there with his backpack and a pair of flip flops. He also has to stay off of the grid to elude the police–no stopping by the visitor’s center, staying on trails (which are flooded as I understand), and going to the camp commissary (if there is such a thing).

He doesn’t seem to have any sort of nature or survival skills, he has no weapon to protect himself or for food, he can’t build a fire to dry his clothes out, etc.

Heh, no, this is truly primitive camping. You generally don’t see another person during your trip.
