Vancouver dopers-recommend a moving company!

I’m moving from Burnaby to White Rock next month. I am led to understand that Translink will not let me drag my bed and sofa onto the bus, so I will have to engage a moving company. Any recommendations as to reputable and/or reliable outfits? I’m packing my own boxes, and it’s a 1 bedroom suites’ worth so a half ton truck should do it.

If you don’t want to post company names, the email address I do check is annibronte@yoohoo(you know who).com

Second request: any good chinese food out there?

From your comments I am assuming you don’t drive - otherwise I would suggest simply renting a truck.

Personally, I am way too paranoid to have anyone touch my stuff, let alone drive it out of my sight. Realistically, though, I think you can’t go too far wrong provided all your boxes are well taped up and you are present to watch the loading/unloading.

I can’t suggest a specific company, though - I have always either rented a truck or used my own - either way, I was the only one packing stuff up and down stairs. I have a couple of pieces that I can’t actually lift myself (pool table slate sections) - I left those for last and got a friend to help.

As coincidences go, this one is up there with the rare ones. I live in White Rock, and also own a 1-ton van. I’d offer to help, but unfortunately I have no free time for the next few weeks.

Good luck.

 Coinceedinks indeed! Thanks for the thought. I’m not wanting to schlub the big stuff myself(I have a car but lack trunk space for the sofa et al) so that’s why I was thinking bringing in some pros. In addition, all my strong-backed friends who might have been drafted into U-haul assistance have either moved out of town or have some orthopedic injury.

Actually, I’m just lazy;)

Can’t help you with a moving company, since when I moved from White Rock to Vancouver I went with U-Haul.

As for Chinese food, my parents are quite fond of Silver Dragon. It’s definitely Western-style Chinese food, but fairly good as long as you stay far, far away from their vegetarian dishes, where they seem to have decided to leave out all the seasoning and double or triple the grease.

Looks like I’ll be driving to Richmond when the dimsum urge strikes then!

Yeah, as far as I know there aren’t any dimsum places in White Rock. Of course, it’s also been about three years since I lived there, so something may have opened up in the meantime.

All I can say is to stay away from any number of little men with larger than normal hearts. They break things, and are REALLY bad at fixing their mistakes.

Neat to work out who else is local, though!

Roger that.
