Vancouver eatery recommendations?

We are leaving for Vancouver on the 20th of August…4 days in Vancouver downtown; 2 days in Tofino then off to Bowen Island for the reminder 3 days.

Any Doper recommendations for eateries in Vancouver and on the way to Tofino (we’re driving from Nanaimo)? I’ve been the checking some websites - I’m hoping it’s not as expensive as it seems!

Oysters; salmon; halibut are favourites.

I like the Yaletown Brewery. The pub grub at the Irish Heather is also swell. For breakfast I like Slickity Jim’s Chat and Chew on Main and just below Broadway (Sophie’s is a bit overrated and the lines are long); also for breakfast the Cuban place on Commercial is awesome. If you’re looking for fancy seafood places, maybe someone else will have a better idea (I tend to live in pubs, I guess).

Oh, and (to half give this a bump because I know there are actual Vancouver people on here), if you want to take a pretty drive and like pubs, a place called the Crow, I think, out east of North Van towards Deep Cove has a good beer selection and good grub. If you’d like to spend a fortune but feel pretty good about having done so afterwards, try Tojo’s–one of the swankier sushi places in town. Cru is also very well respected but we haven’t been. We’re pretty proletariat. I can’t think of any actually decent options on Granville Island. If you have a hankering for decent authentic Mexican you’ll have to head out to the far reaches-- there are a few very good taco places around 40th or so and Victoria. The hip section of Main–around 20th and a bit south-- has some nice spots. There’s a Caribbean place called the Reef that’s good, and the Locus right across the street is also good. For Chinese I’m a bit tame but I like Ginger and Chili on Broadway up near the Uni.
There. I think I’ve exhausted my strong opinions.

For Indian, you gotta go to Vij’s.

Moving thread from IMHO to Cafe Society.
