Vatican Embassy

Maybe Ireland is simply running out of government cash and figures the Roman embassy can do double duty…

…but enough about the PennState mascot…

That is the official line. The Irish Foreign Ministry gave “It gives no economic return” as the reason for the embassy’s closure, as well as the recent closings of their embassies in Iran and East Timor. However, the two sides have been butting heads over the sex abuse scandal and the Vatican even went so far as recalling its ambassador to Ireland back in July after the Irish PM accused the vatican of obstructing the investigation.

So Ireland’s official line for the closure is the cost of running the embassy, but its pretty obvious to me that it’s not the only reason - even if they have decided not to come out and say it.

I’ve heard commentors claiming it both ways, and not along a Catholic/non-Catholic split. It may seem obvious to you, but an awful lot of better-informed people have come up with nothing more than a “Who Knows?”

Holy Shit! Starving Artist has a halberd?

Is being US ambassador to Lichtenstein, Andorra, Luxembourg ,etc., a plum job?

I give it a 2/10 for trolling. The OP only used the word Hitler 3 times in one sentence. It’s like he isn’t even trying.

Without Vatican embassies, how will we preserve the endangered noriega?

Not Liechtenstein, as the our ambassadors to Switzerland now do double duty as ambassadors to Liechtenstein. Same thing with Spain and Andorra. Luxembourg, yes.
