Vatican: Nuns should spend less time on social justice....

Oh, man, to see the look on the faces of the Leadrship Council of the Women Religious when they hear about this!

It’s like, Yeah, take that, “Nuns”!

Those nuns should be more like Mother Angelica (the scariest religious personage I’ve ever seen on TV), who after 9/11 denounced:

"“pornography, abortion, child prostitution, the spread of drugs, the destruction of youth by an immoral media and the suppression of religious expression in public places as ‘other’ terrorism that must be addressed.” She condemned abortion saying it had “deprived the nation of millions of people who would otherwise be there to defend the nation.”

Now that’s the kind of activism the Vatican wants to see, ladies!

I don’t understand that abortion argument. Shouldn’t she also be decrying autoabortion (when the zygote fails to implant) and miscarriage as great natural disasters we need to warn against? Or worse still, abstinence and chastity?

Edit: Oh yeah, Jesus wouldn’t have had long hair. There’s a passage in Corinthians saying it is a shame for a man to have long hair. I think the idea came because of a confusion between Nazarite and Nazarene, or something like that.

Is Crafter_Man trying to be funny? I really can’t tell.

How hard is it to get yourself excommunicated from the Catholic Church? I haven’t attended since 2002 or so, but I really don’t want to be associated with these jackasses anymore.

If he is, it’d be inconsistent with his posting history. In the “Stupid Republican Ideas” thread, he said that federal government should steer clear of interfering with healthcare. He also made a thread claiming that public libraries are an anachronism and literacy should be left to the free market.

Given that Beck has attacked social justice, it’s not surprising that others feel the same need. In fact, the current pope has been more sympathetic to Society of St. Pius X than the social justice crowd and the previous one was wary of the Sandinistas, so it’s not really all that heretical. Well, apart from being incompatible with the message of the Gospels, but they’re hardly a foundational document. Maybe if we could just graft Atlas Shrugged and the really vicious indictments of the Gospels together?

No, Crafter_Man is totally serious.

As for separating yourself from the RCC, just keep doing what you’re doing. One thing to their credit is that they don’t engage in stop-loss activities against individuals.

Actually, he’d even be in conflict with the views of the Pope, because the Catholic church DOES indeed believe in social justice. (Of course, Papa Razi isn’t very keen on pushing it. But yeah, the church is pretty big on charity and working on helping those in need)

I think if you perform or assist in a certain number of abortions, you get to move to the front of the line. It also might be necessary for you to be famous, though. Why waste a perfectly good excommunication on some nobody when there are plenty of John Kerrys out there!?

As usual, Cecil has the answer.

How heretical do you want to be? Give your dog communion with a milk bone? Shout “Jesus is a poopyhead” during Mass? Or are you just going to quietly turn Protestant?

Crafter_Man, who thinks A Christmas Carol was a tragedy.

He answered and said unto them, He that has two coats, let him wear one and keep the other one in storage safely away from the grubby little paws of the parasites; and he that has food, let him gorge himself in front of starving poor people.

I’m shocked, SHOCKED to find that sexism is going on in in this establishment!

Ooo, I want to give communion to a dog! The only problem there is that I never went through Confirmation…I can’t be a Eucharistic Minister.

I was thinking a bit more extreme than Protestant…maybe Pastafarian or Subgenius.

Actually, Ratzi is being consistent. I just read that the biggest oppostition to the 1900 anti poverty laws in the Netherlands came from (wait for it) the church. Yes, they feared that a government program to help the starving underclass would lead to less church adherence. So even back then it was less social justice, more policing against the soul threatening evil du jour.

The program of the RCC has always been consistent: souls, whatever that is, first, happiness second.

The LCWR’s immediate response to this news is how gobsmacked they feel at getting sucker-punched by The Man: http://www.lcwr.org/media/lcwr-statement-presidency-cdf-doctrinal-assessment Their brief statement reads like they’re in a state of shock. Mind you, the Vatican goon squad going after them is the CDF, which actually is, literally, the Roman Inquisition. And they weren’t expecting it…

Corinthians are letters of Paul. Do you really think that Jesus shared his notions on grooming? I can’t recall Chus ever saying anything about women making sure they do not distract people with their locks…

I didn’t realize there was a Roman Inquisition. What are its chief weapons?

You don’t get it. All these are God’s abortions, so they’re cool.

Eh. They’re no better or worse than the “innocent” people God lets die in natural disasters ever day. They just happen to be “pre-born” people, in the eyes of the Church. And the Church has an easy out-- God’s actions are beyond our comprehension. That’s why they call it “faith”.

The nuns should be more like their reasonable male counterparts.
