But, at least from the Xtian perspective, if there is not one truth – but multiple truths, then essentially, Christ was wrong and Xtianity must be a failure.
And that isn’t a flame, but that is exactly what this document is getting at:
There is only one True Church if and only if Jesus taught the one true Truth.
If there are multiple believers who believe different things, then they have different Truths. They can’t all be right if there is but one Truth made known to us by Jesus.
But, at least from the Xtian perspective, if there is not one truth – but multiple truths, then essentially, Christ was wrong and Xtianity must be a failure.**
This is a point I don’t quite follow. Why the insistence on only one truth, only one way of believing, only one way of salvation? This “either/or”, “black/white” mode of thought confuses me.
If it’s true, there is only one Truth, one way of believing, then I can see why he’s The Divine Weasel (as DavidB puts, it, I believe). I find it hard to believe that a being with the abilities of a god would be that cold-hearted and toy with humanity as it does.
If this one Truth is the only way, then I’ll gladly accept purgatory or hell instead of spending eternity with it.
Jesus said “I am – the way and the truth and the light.” He said if you keep his teachings, you will have the Holy Spirit. There can not be more than one Holy Spirit though, and if people disagree on how to keep his teachings, some will have the Spirit and some will only think they have it.
It seems to me, that since the fall, God has done everything in his power to bring people back to him. I don’t see any evidence of cold-hearted toying.
