Veep, season 5

I felt the vague suggestion of a birther theory being hatched, myself, but I guess that would strain credibility.

I think Selina was just (basically) calling Laura a fraud.

The ending seemed very dark, but we’re assured there will be a sixth season and that plotlines are already mapped out for all the regular cast. Should be interesting–it’s an amazing ensemble.

That was my thinking (apologies if I hadn’t made that clear to everyone)

And let’s not worry too much about credibility, Jonah as a Senator (or congressman?..I always mix up those two) is even more implausible. Actually, Jonah in any form of full-time paid employment is something of a stretch.

I dunno, I’m sure there are any number of DC-area bus station glory holes in need of dependable workers.

  • is what I might say if I were a Veep character.

Really? Have you seen some of the real live congress-critters? To me, Jonah becoming a congressperson is the most plausible element of the show!

He’s a shining light next to former Rep. Michelle Bachman and current Rep. Peter King, among many, many others on both sides of the aisle. Hell, I’d vote for Selina Myers ahead of either of the yahoos in our current race.

Also they made a big deal about how the hard drive with Catherine’s documentary is missing. That would suggest it’ll be significant in season 6, or it could just be a red herring. Also IRL it’s not exactly clear if the Vice-President could really cast a tie-breaking vote when the Senate is electing a VPOTUS, or whether the House could keep voting even after January 20th until someone get’s a majority of delegations.

Or how about this; season 6 starts with Selina still in office with no mention whatsoever about her losing the House vote. And she starts solving one crisis after another through out the season while her popularity sky rockets and she finally ends up with a Nobel Peace Prize. Cue the last scene of the show where Gary is vising her in the psychiatric ward at Walter Reed. where she’s been living for the past year.

I think there was a hint in one of the final scenes… Martin Mull passes the new President - confused like always - and thinking it’s Mayer, says something to the effect of, “Hey, Selina, they finally found that box of ballots in your favor in Nevada”

Seems they’re setting up a scenario where it turns out Selina had actually won the election… Maybe the season will be about her fighting to get her Presidency back…

Oh, I just took for granted that Selina had no intention of letting Catherine’s documentary go public - it was just a way to pretend to care about Catherine by letting her stay close with a project of some kind. At some point, Selina directed a minion to remove and destroy the drive, I figure.

There was some mention (and some text in a news crawl) that that Speaker was not going to allow another House vote (pun intended), and it was speculated this was as a favour to Tom James. And the current Veep gets to cast tie-breaking Senate votes no matter the issue, as far as I know. Vaguely related, Al Gore had to preside over various post-election Senate snafus in 2000, despite being one of the candidates.

I’m a little taken aback by a sitting Vice-President who hands the presidency over to an opposing party candidate and then expects to be appointed SecState by that president, at a time when the Senate is near-perfectly divided, making his confirmation iffy. I gather party affiliation is of relatively minor import in the Veep universe.

Yikes, I hope not. That’d be awful.

Check out this promo for season 6 at BuzzFeed. It looks like Selina’s going to be trying carve out some elder stateswoman role, naturally Gary is still at her side.
