I need to vent a little about Ziplock-like shipping bags. This is not pit worthy. Can I vent a little?
The top of Ziplock-like shipping bags (e.g., from Amazon), right where you’re supposed to open them, they are so precisely cut that the two surfaces, the front and back of the bag, when you try to open the bag, they can be extremely difficult to separate.
This can be so aggravating!! Maybe it’s an ‘age thing’, since I’m now a young 63, maybe my youth and exuberance are contributing to the challenge.
I find it helpful to trim the front surface a little. But I can do that Only If I’m Able To OPEN THE BAG IN THE FIRST PLACE!
So, please slow me vent briefly —
MOTHER FUCKING PAIN IN THE ASS!!!
Phew!
Thank you. That’s my humble opinion.
What packagings can you vent about? C’mon, bring it!
I think the idiots who design these bags need to become parents of infants, and have their child get a little stomach illness where they have explosive diarrhea.
But their diaper wipes and towels and spare diapers are sealed and ‘locked’ in such a ziplock back that they’ve designed!!!
Where they have to very quickly access that gear.
(No, I’m really not wishing Ill of any child, but please give me an alternative scenario. Hopefully the point comes across.)
I was given and subsequently ordered some adhesive wipes to remove the sticky residue from my arm when changing the pain patches I used to wear for years.
They are an awesome product but require scissors to open.
It was infuriating.
I always had to carry some rounded scissors with me when traveling which caused a bit of anxiety going through security when I only traveled with carry on luggage.
It was always successful though but a couple times I had to explain why my scissors were medically necessary lol.
I’ll nominate those hard plastic packages that can barely be opened short of explosives. Especially infuriating when the package contains an item that would be very helpful to open it:
(Didn’t have any suitable examples in the house at the moment, so found relevant examples on Google Images.)
You wanna deal with difficult to open packaging? Buy some medical marijuana. On the various MMJ discussion forums, bitching about how difficult it is to open packaging is a common thing. The ziplocks that are near impossible to open are my personal hates. Tinctures are in dropper bottles that you need to push down while turning left. It’s common for patients to return their bottle, thinking it is defective.
ETA: And I second problematic manufactured ziploc packaging. One of my regular dog treats I get has a ziplock top. But when you pull the annoyingly close notched top to open a fresh bag, the flimsy material sometimes rips DOWN and opens a hole below the ziplock, so now I have begun to dread getting the new bags…
I keep a pair of heavy trauma shears or industrial scissors handy for cutting hard plastic packaging, and an sharp utility cutter and/or webbing cutter for bags and wraps.
I have to take immodium fairly often for a medical condition.
Some years ago I was able to buy bottles of immodium softgels that came in different sizes. I still have the old bottle that contained 48 softgels.
Recently I discovered that due to the opioid epidemic immodium now only comes in nearly impenetrable blister packs. Apparently addicts discovered that taking insane amounts of the stuff could bring about some kind of high. It sounds insane but here we are.
So the FDA stepped in to change packaging, size limits and dosing requirements for all immodium products. I think the largest package I can purchase is 24 softgels or tablets.
I am forced to open all of them when I purchase a package and put them in a separate container so that I can get to them quickly when I need them especially when traveling.
It’s difficult for someone like me with arthritis but I have figured out a way to do it fairly quickly with the medically necessary scissors but it still makes me angry.
It sounds like you can’t vent at all, if you’re not able to open the ziplock top
Yeah, I’ve had trouble with ziplock food packaging. Sometimes the ziplock doesn’t seem to want to open and I end up ripping the bag open accidentally. Or there’s some food packaging that has the ziplock not at the very top, but a little bit down from the top along the side of the package, with a tab to help open the ziplock. It is easy to open, but very hard to completely seal back up. Since it’s on the side of the package, you can’t really run your index finger and thumb along the top to make sure the entire length of it zips up.
One of my kids looked at a bottle of aspirin on our table and said that they had expired ten years ago. I had to explain that we keep the old bottle and when we get a new bottle, I somehow pried the cap off (sometimes with a pliers) and decanted them into the old bottle with a removable cap.
The other thing that irritates me no end are the sardine tins. Yes you can pry the lids off easily without either a key or a can opener, but only after you somehow remove the plastic wrapper, for which you need a knife or scissors.
I take a pill daily that used to come in a large bottle the pharmacist would count out, but now comes in bubble wrap that I just cannot deal with. Fortunately the pharmacist can and does. Why do they do these things? It is not a narcotic nor narcotic adjacent. Just an anti-cholesterol drug (although not a statin).
This is why I keep a pair of small scissors in my drug drawer. I don’t even bother trying to push the pills through.
FYI, kiddie scissors should go through security
I’ve had some really bad bags with built-in zippers. Once, the two sides were completely offset
Yes, children’s safety scissors can get through security. I have a small pair in my carry-on bag and have been through multiple flights with no problem.
Those zip bags stuff is shipped is not meant to be reused. The zip is replacing staples, sticky stuff or some other closure. Cut it. Just cut it.
Also there are usually vent holes, stick your finger in it and rip. Satisfying.
Any bottle of pills can be recanted. (Label them)Most pharmacy bottles you can flip the top to an easier open side.
You can still buy little screw top bottles. Dollar store, Amazon. Cheap.
I actually have some cork top bottles I got from Dollar General. $1 each. How easy is that?
They make a tool for opening the hard plastic packaging.
Tell you the truth I don’t bother. An Xacto knife will cut open anything. Even those little blister packs. A tiny slice and pop out the pill. Don’t even try to peel that paper. Stoopid.
Also, when you purchase stuff at a B&M look at the packaging and determine the mood you’re in and if you feel emotionally strong enough to deal with it. I’ve passed on things because of this.
Also anything you need to grab repeatedly put in a slider Ziploc (not traditional press zipper).
Anything. You would not believe the stuff I store in slider bags.
I like similar things gathered together, mild OCD thing.
The food and treats that come in those stupid, “never work right” zip bags go immediately into a slider bag. Ain’t dealing with that shit.
It’s 2024, dumplin’, 2024!
Get you an Xacto knife and slider bags.
I have no problem getting the rounded kiddie scissors through although last year in Copenhagen I had a guy take them out and measure them lol! Turns out there might be a length restriction in some cases/countries which I was totally unaware of. Mine have always been very small and rounded.
