verses of songs

Where is that link to the lyrics of songs?
I always had trouble figuring out The Israelites.

I have no idea what the answers are to questions like this and that is why I never go to Cafe Society.

As near as I can tell, there are about 15 jillion links on the internet to lyrics of songs. And I’m afraid I have no idea what Israelites you’re talking about.

As I was about to post my wiseass answer I figured out the question. Israelites is a song that was covered by Bob Marley.

You may need to do a ^F and search for Israelites

Questions about song lyrics usually do best in the Cafe Society forum, so I’ll move this thread over there.

Remember, posting a link to the lyrics is good. Posting the complete lyrics themselves is bad.

When you get the answer, let me know what “Darling she said I was yours to be seen” means.

“Israelites” was a Top 10 hit for Desmond Dekker in 1969. It was the first reggae single to reach the Top 10 in the US, and the first to go to #1 in the UK.

…and, I meant to add, the lyrics compare the plight of Kingston’s working poor to Old Testament Israelites, so I’ve read, but it’s hard to make out what he’s actually saying.

Actually, I think it’s a Rastafarian things, with blacks being a lost tribe (there being plenty of Ethiopian Jews). So it’s a bit more than a comparison.
