First off: I’m just looking for a factual answer about a method of dividing up the text of certain books. Let’s leave out the theology and any other witnessing or anti-witnessing, apologia for and against, speeches, etc.
I’ve long been familiar with two versification (dividing into verses) methods for the Book of Mormon, and the Doctrine and Covenants. The first one with which I’m familiar is the one used by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The second is used by the Community of Christ (formerly called the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints). (I actually prefer the 2nd system’s division of the text of the Doctrine and Covenants.) A week or so ago, while reading some statistics, I ran across a comment saying that there were “a number of versification systems” for those two books.
So, how many versification systems for those two books are there and which ones are still in use today and by which groups?
Thanks!
