I can’t really say too much good about the movie. I thought the acting was sterile, the action scenes way over-the-top, most of the special effects were “feh.” Then I had some theatre problems that just made for an unpleasant experience (30 minutes of commercials - 30! And then a 20 minute intermission. I was at the theatre for over 4 hours.)
About the most interesting thing about the whole movie was I experienced vertigo at the end. Disturbing but still cool in an intellectual way. Chest-tightening vertigo causing a mild panic reaction while an ape knocks planes out of the air. Neat.
I lost count of the times we got to look at Ann’s face while she simpered or got lost in the moment of ‘now’. Way to apply a battle-axe when subtlety would have worked so much more, Peter. “Look! She is reflecting upon the moment! It is so MEANINGFUL!!! Here, let me film it for an extra 20 seconds, just so you get how MEANINGFUL it REALLY is. No, really LOOK! See the face!”
As with all too many movies, the ending just sucked. Carl’s “No, it was Beauty that killed the Beast.” made me groan. The reporter’s line would have made a far better ending “He was shot by an airplane and died, what else do you expect?” or something along those lines.
But the vertigo was cool.
