See thread title. I’m here, but have no idea where the best joints are. Any style food, but with veggie choices for the niece. Thanks!
Pagliacci’s on Broad Street is a favourite place of mine since about 1984 or so. The website is http://www.pagliaccis.ca/ There should be some vegetarian dishes.
We aren’t high end diners generally, but have enjoyed seafood at Pescatores Seafood & Grill. Barb’s Fish & Chips at Fisherman’s Wharf is yuuuumy for halibut and chips.
How long are you in town for? What are you planning to do/see? Or asking on behalf of the niece?
Do NOT eat Chinese in Victoria. Sucks ass. Panda Express would be better and more authentic
Thanks. We ended up at Pescatores, which was excellent, if extremely busy. Total tab with tip came to about $170, but we don’t do things like that very often. Went to the museum afterward, which was empty at that time of night. The guy on the water taxi told us about Barb’s. We leave tomorrow; will likely do Buchart (sp?) Gardens today.
Can’t believe the amount of money sitting on the water here. There are two mega-yachts tied up downtown. It’s obscene how much money some people have.
And yet housing prices are no worse than Chicago. And better than Vancouver. When I chuck it all and move to Canada I’m making a beeline for Victoria. Real nice town.
If you have time, head to Royal Roads University and visit Hatley Castle and the gardens. I am doing my MA at RRU and am lucky enough to spend three weeks every October there and get to enjoy the beauty. Alas, this year is my last, but we’ll be going back at some point.
Totally second this. I have been haunting Royal Roads all summer long, walking my dog there. Shore, forests, gardens, castle, woodlands–it’s got so many beautiful places to walk. Did 6 km last night through the forest trails, and wasn’t even close to covering it all. My Instagram is full of pictures of Royal Roads!
Glad the dinner was good! I am sorry about the weather, though. It’s been so gorgeous and sunny–until this last week.
Da Tandoor! Da Tandoor! It’s just the best Indian restaurant ever!
I went to Butchart Gardens in the mid 90s. I’m not the type to ooh and awe over some flowers, but this was really, really impressive.
Thanks for the ideas. We skipped Butchart Gardens, went on a self-guided Chinatown tour. On Sunday, we saw an accordion parade in the morning and the Victoria Flamenco Festival in the afternoon, which was very impressive. Had dinner at Barbs, which was not so much. Caught the ferry to Vancouver on Monday and are back home now.
