Video Card memory vs computer memory

I’m looking to replace my on board video with a video card. I have noticed that some cards have ddrram and some sdram. Does the ram have to match?

I’m running an Athlon Duron 1.2 gig with 224 megs ddrram.

The video card doesn’t know or care what kind of system RAM you’ve got.

You’ll also find that you’ve actually got 256 megs of DDRAM, once you disable the on-board video. It’s currently “stealing” 32 megs of the system RAM and using it as video RAM.

Many thanks.

one thing to check before you rush off and buy your video card. make sure your computer has an agp port. I learned this the hard way with my first computer. it had an intergrarted i810 and no agp port. I was stuck with a $150 dollar card I could not use. alot of motherboards that have intergrated video do not have agp ports.

however if your getting a pci video card then never mind this post.
fyi agp is alot faster then pci for video.
