I should add the battle I was referring to is Ghost Mom after viewing all 3 tears. It was crazy.
Has anyone played Ghost of Tsushima? I can get it for $36 right now and I am wondering what everyone’s impressions of it were.
It’s great! Excellent combat, smooth gameplay, gorgeous art direction. One of the few games where I’d often forgo fast travel because even riding around the map felt cinematic. One of these days I’ll go back, get the expansion, and do another playthrough.
I played it on console, no idea how good the PC port is.
I love Ghost of Tsushima. But it’s a very dark game. They really don’t stray away from the horrors of war and occupation.
Be warned that if you’re anything like me, you’ll die a lot at first until you learn all four stances.
I’ll let you know.
Has anyone tried Split Fiction yet? Split Fiction on Steam
It’s a two-player co-op game by the folks who made It Takes Two. It has Overwhelmingly Positive reviews and sold 2 million copies in 1 week. If I had someone to play through that with, I’d be all over it…
After many years, I dug up my old Shadows of Mordor disc. It still holds up very well! Though the controls/movement is a lot jankier than I remember. But it’s still fun as hell. I think I’m getting arthritis in my button-mashing thumb…
I liked Shadows of Mordor, but I found that Shadows of War (the sequel) had more replay potential. I think there’s only one difficulty level in Shadows of Mordor, for instance (I could be misremembering).
I have not but I have a few friends who played it couch co-op with their spouses and all raved about it.
My wife and I started playing it Sunday. It is a platformer, a genre she does not particularly like. I have gotten extremely frustrated with the difficulty of some of the mini-boss battles. I frequently ridicule the plotline and dialog. But, having said all that, we are absolutely hooked on this game. We ended up playing two hours past our bedtime last night without even realizing it.
Thank you! My partner is the same way… she really struggled with It Takes Two, being too platforming and action-focused. But maybe I’ll try to convince her to give this a shot…
I just finished Death’s Door on the Switch - it was very enjoyable, and I would recommend it. You play a crow that is part of the Soul Reaping Commission, but something has gone wrong and you have to travel around various realms to collect some giant souls. I won’t get into the story too much; it’s basic but cohesive, and the makers have displayed a good sense of humor throughout (e.g. Death wears a fanny pack for no reason). The music is a highlight. Combat is simple and fun, if a bit repetitive after a while. There are some basic “puzzles,” but nothing strenuous. There are a bunch of optional secret shrines to find to upgrade your life and magic, which I found extremely difficult to find without help, and then I found a place where you can get some in-game hints that would have made it a little easier.
It’s a fairly short game, but I totally got my money’s worth and then some.
Both my teen son and I played all the way through Ghost of Tshushima when it first came out, and then both played the whole game again when the expansion was released. It’s probably the most beautiful game I’ve ever played.
I got the standard ending on Hades. I was worried that it was going to be too hard for me, but it wasn’t really all that difficult after getting a bit of meta-progress unlocked. I’ll try turning up some of the difficulty sliders, but I don’t think I’ll be playing it on heat level 20 any time soon.
I watched some Let’s Play videos on it a few years ago and it looked like a cute game.
Anyone have any opinions about Outer Wilds, which Reply has recommended? I watched the trailer, which didn’t have much to tell me, but it looks intriguing. And I have enjoyed other Annapurna games, so that’s helpful.
I liked it and definitely recommend it. I don’t think it’s the Best Game Ever, which some people seem to think. The core mechanic sorta wore out its welcome after a while and there are some pieces that were very frustrating. But overall it’s still quite good and worth playing.
I haven’t played it, but I know enough to know that this is on purpose. You’re meant to go into it blind.
Apparently there is an autopilot feature. Be sure to try and use that. When I tried it I just flew around manually and found it damn near impossible to control, so I gave up.
You’re not wrong. However, I knew I could 100% Mordor in a couple dozen hours and I could move on to another, newer game. War is bigger and better in just about everyway, but I just didn’t want to commit to several more hundreds of hours into a callback. Plus the aforementioned button mashing thumb soreness, I needed to be through it and onto something calmer before I seriously hurt myself.
Good to know, thanks for the tip! Now that you have this info, do you think you would revisit the game?
