I’ve never met a single person of any political persuasion or alignment on the issue of marriage equality who would ever suggest, with a straight face, that there be no legal entity called “marriage” whatsoever, that everyone should just get civil unions and marriage should only belong to religions. Not a one.

Ever heard of Alan Dershowitz? He’s pretty well known. He wrote Government Should Quit the Marriage Business.

Naturally, I have met people in real life who have suggested with a straight face that marriage is a religious issue and no business of the state.

Well more than anything else I figured it was a given that gay men wouldn’t want to have sex with a woman, and I didn’t feel the need to nitpick my own sentence to death with a lot of qualifiers that could easily be assumed by the reader.

Oh no no no, Bouv forgot LOTS of people cause he’s this biiiiiiig asshole, you see. He forgot gays, blacks, Jews, the lot of them! He forgot us Hindus, the biracial, and even those with receding hairlines. None of the above groups of people exist.
