Villains who are tradesmen?

Nurse Ratched. I win the thread.

No, not the pennies for the children, the pennies for everyone!

Nope. That was Benny Hill, who was responsible for some of the worst moments in British comedy.

I love it too. I don’t understand why people hate it so. It’s too long, but that’s about the only problem I can think of - and I don’t mind a long movie, either, so it’s not a problem for me. It has an interesting story, and the outdoor settings are really nice to look at. And there are guys on horses with assault rifles. How many movies have that?!

 Benny Hill wasn’t in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Au contraire :stuck_out_tongue:

Ah. I was thinking of Van Dyke as the “Toymaker,” 'cause that’s pretty much what he does in the story.

Star Trek’s Kivas Fajo traded in rare and precious items (and was evil too)

Uncle Drossmeier, from The Nutcracker. Who could also, incidentally, start up a side-line as a rodent exterminator.

And there was also a show that had a brief run in the 80s about a genius toymaker who always ended up solving crimes and foiling bad guys with his inventions, but for the life of me, I can’t remember what it was called.

Back to the OP, and at risk of Godwinizing the thread, Hitler was a painter, which might be considered a trade.

He made puppies?

In Jordan’s Wheel of Time series, Asmodean, one of the Forsaken, was a composer during the Age of Legends and joined the Dark Side simply to gain immortality.

The Toulon guy from The Puppetmaster vs. the Demonic Toys was the hero of the movie, though the implication was that he wasn’t a very GOOD toymaker, relying on his grandfather’s work which he learned to use to rescue his daughter (not to mention the hot lady-cop in the movie).

Anybody know how I managed to go off topic in my own thread? :smack:

Perhaps you’re… evil?

Was he a small person?

The bad guy in Delicatessen is a butcher.

Depending on whether you think these characters from The Wire are villians:

Proposition Joe runs a small appliance repair shop and is seen doing the repairs himself.

In addition to being one of the masterminds of the Barksdale drug organization, Stringer Bell runs a copy shop as a legitimate business.

Al Capone was a florist.

I should point out that there’s now considerable doubt about Hauptmann’s guilt.

When it comes to fictional villains who also had a regular job, how about Iago? No, there’s a better example somewhere in the back of my mind; I’ll have a look. God, it’s a filthy mess back there.
