I can still see him sitting in front of the House saying “Dad, I’m sitting here today, in the U.S. Capitol talking to our elected professionals—is proof that you made the right decision 40 years ago to leave the Soviet Union,” Vindman said. “Do not worry, I will be fine for telling the truth."
“Congressman, because this is America. This is the country I have served and defended, that all of my brothers have served. And here, right matters,”
I thought that was true. I wanted to believe that was true. I’m beyond pissed off that this brave, patriotic man has been hounded from his career by a petty vindictive tyrant who isn’t fit to wash his car. This isn’t the United States I grew up in, and it isn’t the United States that Lt. Col. Vindman believed he was serving. In this United States our leaders vilify truth, celebrate dictators, and punish anyone who stands up to them.
I’m ashamed to be an American today. Right doesn’t matter anymore. And we should all be very afraid.
I agree with every word you wrote, and I understand your sense of despair. But let’s not give up quite yet. Let’s give it till past the election in November. And let’s also remember, the sort of country we live in falls substantially to each and every one of us to do our part to ensure it is the country we want and of which can be proud.
Maybe this time we will finally learn the lesson that to elect Republicans to office is to let the foxes run the hen house. Each time we put them into office, they work feverishly to undermine all that this country was founded upon.
Work hard to keep them out of office, and do stay afraid. We are at the crux of becoming… not a democracy. We don’t have to let this happen, but we are running out of opportunities to change it. The kakistocracy has amassed an immense amount of power, together with our money via one fleecing after another.
I think Colonel Vindman has a better future ahead for him, but it should have been his choice. I, too, am sickened.
Some of us Republicans are utterly disgusted by this and most of the President’s action. Disgusted enough to switch parties if the bastard gets re-elected.
You might as well say that you are disgusted. SO disgusted that you’ll switch parties ONCE the bastard gets re-elected. As the post above mine spells out, the goal is to not let that happen.
