My MIL is coming from a faraway land to vist for a month. I will accept all the sympathy I can muster, but what I really need is a few bottles of this bourbon. It’s her favorite, but unavailable in this part of the country. The distillery (A. Smith Bowman) refers me to an online retailer (internetwines.com), but they are out of stock. Anyone know any online retailers who will ship interstate that might carry Virginia Gentleman?
Looks like these folks have it. Get a bottle for yourself, you poor man. A month! Hell, get two.
Nevermind, they’re out of stock, too. :smack:
I’ll keep looking.
Actually, beerliquors.com is the same site as internetwines.com. I discovered that also.
I may have to modify my request to finding a local retail liquor store that would take a phone order and ship out of state. Anyone in the northeast with a big liquor store that might accomodate?
Oh, the indignity of resorting to 20th century technology!
Most state’s liquor laws will not permit shipment of liquor over state lines, but I’m going to the liquor store today for work, I’ll check there, and maybe I could find someone (not me, of course ) that could ship it to you.
Many thanks!
If I can manage to have a couple of bottles of that bourbon waiting for MIL when she arrives, she (and I ) will have a very pleasant stay.
While we’re waiting, can we hijack this into a general thread about bourbon?
Assuming the answer is yes…
What are the favorite bourbons here? I read a thread here once where someone made the (evidently mortal) sin of calling Jack Daniels “bourbon”. I happen to like Jack as an everyday bourbon (although it’s a bit perfumy), but I prefer Wild Turkey. I didn’t care much for Maker’s Mark, although by the time I had heard about it I was told that it was no longer owned by the same company. I like Woodford Reserve a lot, yes indeedy. I’m assuming that Virginia Gentleman is a premium bourbon, although the price seems reasonable.
Any other suggestions? Purely in the interest of scientific investigation?
Ah, crap, this is GQ. :smack: I should pay more attention.
Is it flirting with disaster to turn this into a learned discourse on that most civilized of American beverages: bourbon?
While I am sure that Virgina Gentlemen is a fine bourbon, if you could find some 18 year old Elijah Craig I’m sure that you and MIL would get by. He did invent bourbon after all.
As this gets kicked into Cafe Society…
The various Wild Turkey expressions (Rare Breed, Russell’s Reserve, etc.) are excellent bourbons, and have a wonderful nose. My personal favorite is Old Weller Antique. Very reasonable in price and absolutely stunning flavors.
Jack Daniels isn’t bourbon. It’s Tennessee Whiskey; it’s filtered via the Lincoln County Process, which means it’s not bourbon. These things aren’t matters of opinion.
Since the OP has discovered that the item in question is NOT available in his area, and as others have discovered, shipping high proof alcohol between states is illegal, there seems no reason to keep this one open. If you think I"m wrong for closing it, my email is plainly visible.

Reopened as the OP says that it’s NOT illegal to ship high proof alcohol between some states. I must admit that I didn’t investigate this myself.
Let’s leave this open until someone can show me yes or no that shipment of whiskey to an individual is legal

A Texas resident may import no more than a quart of liquor from out of state for personal enjoyment (if I’m reading the Code correctly).
Now, whether the person *sending * it can do so without a permit will depend on where the exporter is located.
I think this may be what you are looking for:
Q. I want to send a particular product to someone but it’s not on your website? Does this mean it’s not available?
A. 1877SPIRITS.COM CAN HAVE ANY PRODUCT DELIVERED FOR YOU AS LONG AS IT’S AVAILABLE IN THE STATE/COUNTRY YOU WANT TO SEND IT TO. PLEASE EMAIL OR CALL US FOR MORE INFORMATION. TELL US WHAT PRODUCT YOU ARE INTERESTED IN AND THE TOWN, STATE, AND COUNTRY IT IS TO BE DELIVERED TO. A CSR WILL GET BACK TO YOU AS SOON AS THE INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE.

And I think that site also shows shipping alcohol is legal, with a few restrictions.
If you still can’t find Virginia Gentleman, I would suggest you buy several bottles of other highly recommended bourbon, and have a bourbon tasting through out the month. I would suggest:
Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve
Woodford Reserve
Knob Creek
Booker’s
Baker’s
