In my collegel Psych 101 lecture, the professer demonstrated this for the whole auditorium full of students. He had a big 12" spinning spiral, and he told us to stare at the center, and then when he said “now” to look at his face.
Heh! The entire class went “whoa” at once.
Try it. First load this face into a new browser window, and then on top of that, open the page linked to from the OP (for faces, the spiral works better in reverse, and maybe a little faster)
Stare at the center for 30 seconds, then bring the face picture to the foreground.

I remember seeing the spiral thingy in Omni Magazine back in the late 70’s, but you had to cut it out and put it on your turntable.
