Virtual Turnpike...Find where you used to live!

This is a neat website that uses google maps and street views based on street addresses where you can look at surprisingly good resolution images of say, a home you used to live in. Try it out!

Not sure how that’s different from instantstreetview.com

Looks like somebody’s been renovating.

I found a couple old places that I lived. Pops right up with a front view of the house.

omg did that tug at my heart, much better pic than google sv. what happened to the royal palm tree in the front yard? that was my turf, my sidewalk, my live oak wtf happened to the live oak? hurricanes no doubt. Can’t see the backyard though is the poolstill there I wonder…

It provided an obscure side view of my old house in upstate NY, partially hidden by trees. Not a front view of the house. Guess it’s still limited.

Hee! Apparently the little kids that bought our old house didn’t believe us about sewers and root removal. That was an expensive mistake.

This is just showing Google street view? Am I missing something?

“Street view not available”. For either of the old homes I tried. Geez, by this time I figured google would have covered the whole country.

The house I lived in from second grade to joining the Army sure looks different. I mean, the shape of the house is the same but it’s painted gray now.

What really makes things different is the trees. We moved in when the house and neighborhood both were new. Trees weren’t very tall. Now the little pin oak behind the house can be seen from the street out front. Sigh.

Looks like Google Maps Street view with advertising added.

House looks a lot better than it did when I lived there.

I grew up in that house. My folks sold it when I was a sophomore in college and pretty much living full time in Austin.

When we lived there, it was a plain, white, two story house. The house has been renovated several times since, including turning it into a two story duplex. The front used to be a yard with several trees instead of a driveway.

My room was on the second floor in the back left corner.

Every year I check and every year we don’t show up on Street View. I figure when we do it’s time to move :D.

Yeah, why is anybody using this? Why not just go to maps.google.com?

No place I lived qualified for photographs <sigh>

Can someone (the OP?) take a swing at this? It’s been asked a couple of times, how is this different from google SV?

Add me to the list of people not getting it. It looks like Google Maps with a bunch of features removed.

I think some of the images look clearer than GSV but that may just be coincidence. Its interesting that I cannot see many of the homes I used to live in as they were on US military bases and I assume the google camera cars are not welcome there…

How can the images be clearer? They’re the same exact images.

Erm, it is Google Street View pics, as lots of people have pointed out. Is this thread just full of shills, or what?

Anyway. this was my house in the second year of university. The room with the front door (number 4) opens straight into what was my bedroom (we used the back door as the main entrance). Coldest house I have ever lived in. Also, looks like whoever lives in my housemate Vicky’s old room (above mine) has a weird doll collection.
