Virus on system

Sure, I’ll give that a shot first. Nothing to lose really, since I’ll just blow the system away if it doesn’t work. Will let you know it it works.

ETA: there is nothing I can disable though, since Kas doesnt come up anymore and trying to run it, or even get into Services comes back with the same error. I can’t run MSCONFIG either, so there is little I can do at this point. Not even sure I can execute the program you linked to me or comnofix either.

rkill will probably run, if you use one of the versions renamed for a windows system process: exlorer.exe, iexplore.exe, winlogon.exe, or userinit.exe. Most spyware will allow those to run, as they are needed to execute their spyware payload.

Haven’t been home to try it yet, but I can tell you that Internet Explorer doesn’t in fact run either. Neither does Firefox. So far I’ve seen nothing that runs actually.

You might want to try the Microsoft Safety Scanner. http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

I tried everything suggested plus some more, but Nothing worked. I was completely unable to execute any program. It’s like the OS was locked. Never seen anything like this one. In the end I bit the bullet and blew the system away. I’m currently finishing updates and initial loads of software, then I plan to do a baseline backup with Acronis and then try out some suggestions in the games forum to get my Steam games and saves back on the system (I have copies of the directories indicated, as well as a copy of the old My Documents folder).

Thanks again for all the help. Wish I could say what this latest virus was but since it literally disables everything there was no way to find out. My Linux boot AV detected nothing.
