66 years old here, I have worn very close to the same prescription my entire life. I am near sighted and only wear classes for driving, primarily at night. I have never been able to pass my vision test at DMV so my liscense has always stipulated prescription lenses to drive.
Anyway over the last couple of years my vision no longer matched my prescription so I assumed my vision had gotten worse. I went in for new glasses yesterday and my vision is now better than 20/20. I have exceptional for distance vision now. I was really happy to hear this at first but now I am thinking something might be wrong with me causing my vision to change. By chance changing for the better but still changing.
Is there anything bad that can cause vision to suddenly improve?
My husband went through this exact experience last year. Just as you’ve described it. The eye Dr even contacted the DMV to have the restriction lifted off his license!
Thinking back the change may not have been so recent, I started noticing less dependence on my glasses for night driving quite a few years ago, I thought I was just adapting to driving with bad vision. Abut 4 years ago I noticed that y glasses seemed slightly out of focus. So the change may not have been as sudden as I thought it was.
It’s called “presbyopia” and it’s why some of us wind up needing bifocals. Or in other cases the distance vision is find and reading glasses are required.
