I don’t know the meaning behind it, but I’ve always loved, loved, loved this song. Not many people are familiar with it. Blonde on Blonde is a pretty big, sprawling work to begin with, and this just adds to it
As an aside, I once say the Grateful Dead do a version with Garcia on lead vocals. I’m sure he got a headache he was concentrating on the lyrics so hard.
