M$ CEO says Vista sales projections show “irrational exuberance.”
Hmm. The Zune was supposed to be an “iPod killer” before it was released. Then, after it hit the market, Gates said, “Oh, we’ll be happy if it sells 50,000 units.”

Hmm. The Zune was supposed to be an “iPod killer” before it was released. Then, after it hit the market, Gates said, “Oh, we’ll be happy if it sells 50,000 units.”
But who declared it an “iPod killer”?
IIRC, that was the buzz leaking out of M$ before it was released. Mind you, several “experts” who’ve reviewed the Zune have said that with a few minor modifications (such as a click wheel and elimination of the DRM “features” as well as the ability to download podcasts) it could be better than an iPod.
I’ve heard Vista refered to as “Windows ME 2007”.
The only good things I’ve heard about it are that it has a nice shiny flashy interface, and that UAC was a good idea in theory. (Few seem to like how it was implemented.)
Add in current lack of signed drivers, the relatively high system requirements, and the insane amount of DRM, and I think Vista will be adoptly only very slowly. I’ve heard many people say they’ll wait until the first service pack is out, which is probably why Microsoft is rushing to get it out as soon as possible.
In my opinion, there just isn’t any compelling reason to buy Vista. XP works just fine for me. It will continue to work just fine for me for a long time. By the time I find XP unsuitable (perhaps because MS drops support for it but exploits continue to be found) there will likely be a version of Linux that will appeal to me. (Ubuntu is really close already.)
And I could always just go crazy and get a Mac or something.
But XP will probably be the very last Windows OS I own.
I sure hope it is Zune 2, anything that hurts microsoft financially is a good thing, but then again I have an irrational hatred of the collective and want to see the company die slowly and painfully, crushed under it’s own weight
