Visually stunning, and the largest work of indoor art in the world.

Rotterdam is the second-largest town in the Netherlands, and known for its modern architecture. Three years ago the city commissioned the building of a new indoor market building. The set-up was already interesting enough: stalls on the floor of a huge hollow building. (architects drawing made before the building).

Today the building is finished. It is stunning. Even more stunning is the decorations on the inside. The artist made a photomontage of falling fruits, foods, fish, bread and insects. As if you’re little Alice in Wonderland, and a Godzilla-sized horn of plenty is shaken out over your head. And every raspberry or grape or ladybug or shrimp is the size of a building of four floors.

Enjoy some pictures on the site of the comapny who printed the 4000 panels that make up the decoration.

And a walk through on You-tube. (made when it was almost finished).

Beautiful! Not sure about that giant snail though.

Two kewl!

That’s one huge strawberry.

That totally fucking rocks!

It’s a great concept, but I wish they’d used 2 parabolas for the cross-section. Or even circles would be better.
