I have heard many times that it is better to get your vitamins in food rather than from a pill but ive never heard an explaination, why is this? what is the difference?
Ok…Dr Walford’s - of UCLA and famous Biosphere projects- research shows that supplements don’t seem to work anywhere near as well as nutrtion from food directly. As part of a longevity/life extension study, supplements don’t so anything measurable.
But I’ve seen studies that hint some supplements like fish oil (omega-3) are absorbed well. Much of it depends on the vitamin you are talking about. Vitamin A absorbtion vs. Niacin absorbtion is probably an example…where you need to compare vitamin to vitamin.
Overall, there is no debate about food: you are still more likely to absorb and benefit from nutritious properly prepared food…but there are some supplements that work…but from each vitamin to each mineral, they all are different. Some go in and out.
