Vivek Ramaswamy

Here’s an interesting article on his background. I didn’t know he was one of Martin Shkreli’s investors

As a conservative-libertarian, I “should” like him based on some of his views. But I don’t - his personality and delivery really turn me off. He comes off way too aggressive and defensive in his interviews. He needs to take a chill-pill. I couldn’t put up with that for one day, let alone four years. He’s also positioning himself as his party’s next Donald Trump, and I’m no fan of Trump.

Did not know this, but definitely gives off Pharma Bro vibes.

I actually watched the debate, and he was like one of those people you meet in a social situation who is so eager to talk that they’re not even listening to what you’re saying, and they constantly interrupt you.

Yep. There are two kinds of people in this world: Those who listen, and those who wait for their turn to speak. Vivek is the latter.

  1. There’s little that I love more than an Ivy League (in Ron DeSantis’s case, Yale/Harvard Law; In Vivek Ramaswamy’s case, Harvard/Yale Law – so different, right??) faux populist. Gulling the rubes. Same. As. It. Ever. Was.

  2. Ramaswamy wants to ban people under 25 from voting if they haven’t either served in the military or passed a Civics exam (ie, voter suppression). How 'bout we also don’t let registered Republicans vote unless they can write a 1,000 word essay that compares and contrasts Socialism, Communism, and Marxism? How about we make them pass a Civics exam if they self-report as “believing in a supreme being?” And – yes – they will be reviewed by a panel of distinguished PoliSci academics.

That’s all for now. The latest ethnocentric jab was certainly red meat for Vivek’s base, but sickened me just a wee bit more.

Yeah, he has “Reed Richards” vibes. “I’m the smartest guy in the room and I know it and you do too so bask in my brilliance.” Like when he said he’d been studying foreign policy for the past few months and therefore understood it better than any of the other candidates.

Is this a serious suggestion or is he just musing about a fantasy idea? Because if he honestly thinks this would be Constitutional, he’s not fit to be president.

Uh … well … y’see …

It really should be more than that.

He has strong, wrong views on topics he very obviously knows very little about. Even if you agree with him on climate change or Ukraine, say, it’s obvious he has jumped to a conclusion with little research, on topics that affect millions, if not billions, of lives.

And secondly, he doesn’t “own” his positions, he says whatever he wants in the moment, regardless if it contradicts what he has said previously. When interviewers (including, incredibly, Hannity!) point out the inconsistencies in what he’s saying, he just says that the prior quote was from the “fake news media” or whatever, without even acknowledging the apparent inconsistency, let alone explaining it.

ETA: I forgot about him essentially victim-blaming black people for the recent (one of many) racially-motivated shooting. That should be immediately disqualifying.

:He looks and sounds like the guy at the car dealership that wants to sell you aftermarket paint protection and nitrogen filled tires and all the other extras you don’t need. He’s one of those guys who you think “well he looks interesting, let’s here what he has to say.” Then he opens his mouth and you’re thinking “OK, who else is there?”

I also wonder if he’s more:

  • After Trump’s voters, or
  • After Trump’s VP pick

Whatever it is … it’s that whole Brett Kavanaugh “Audience of One” thing, redux.

To be fair, I can’t remember anyone who wasn’t like that in American political debates.

What an ass. At least he recognizes it would take a constitutional amendment. In other words, talk is cheap. He knows bloody well this will never happen.

Apropos of nothing …

Cynical: concerned only with one’s own interests and typically disregarding accepted or appropriate standards in order to achieve them. “a cynical manipulation of public opinion”

As a melanin enhanced non-Christian, he is in serious danger of a face eating.

Vivek has a new bit on his website where he calls Nikki Haley “Nimarata Randhaw”, which is her lesser-known (to me, anyway) birth name. Why do that? Is he suggesting she’s hiding her heritage?

It would be nice for a president to be not elderly, and he comes across confidently, I do like his stance on Taiwan. He doesn’t have a chance? Thats what they said about Trump!

His debate performance put me in mind of Professor Harold Hill.

Interesting sidelight regarding those dark allusions to insider trading (where Ramaswamy sold a bunch of stock because he allegedly knew that the phase 3 trial of the company’s Alzheimer’s drug would fail):

The published paper on the trial concluded that the drug in question “did not produce statistical improvement over placebo on cognition or activities of daily living in mild-to-moderate AD dementia patients.”

This is spite of the fact that the lead author and several co-authors served as consultant to or were former employees of the company hoping to market the drug, which would’ve sent up red flags if the trial had been reported successful.

Guess it really was a lousy drug.
