I’m running Win 10, 4 Gig memory, and having a problem getting VLC to play a Netflix disc. The error message: “Cannot open dvd:///E:/” where E: is the CD disc directory.
Any suggestions?
Most movie/TV DVDs are copy protected. I know you aren’t trying to copy the movie, but the player still needs to get around the copy protection. And I don’t think this board allows us to discuss how to defeat copy protection.
Try SMPlayer and see if the same thing happens.
In general I find it better than VLC Player.
VLC will open pretty much anything, DRM or not.
And - tiptoeing somewhat around the rules - open source software will allow a transcode into a format that can be opened. VLC is shipped with with this software.
If VLC won’t do it for you you can transcode using the superbly unintuitive “Super (c)” which gives possibly the world’s worst GUI to some amazing OS software (both Super (c) and the OS software are legal in the US and elsewhere) - but note, Windows only
It sounds more like a badly burnt DVD to me.
Refusal to even open the DVD is typically due to a scratch, a bad burn or a production error (if the DVD is commercial)
Can you open this DVD with a normal file browser, eg Windows Explorer?
To get a copy of Super (c) requires patience; their Web designer clearly heard about SEO in 1997; and has stuck with that theory. Go here: SUPER © 3D Video Converter Encoder Recorder Player then scroll down a long way.
Did I mention the poor usability? Well. It’s worth mentioning again. But once you have mastered the crazy GUI it us a very powerful tool.
(However, if you DO use Super(c) I implore you to make a youtube tutorial; this software is amongst the hardest to use I’ve ever seen.)
Dumbass question, but is your E: drive a DVD/CD reader or just a CD-only reader (not that very many of those are sold any more)?
No question too dumbass in IT support!
But these days CD only drives are very rare, let alone CD readers (not writers)
A follow up question, then: does this disk open on a different machine without problems?
