Vocal samples thread: how do *you* say it?

Please do!

Never even been there! But I do purchase my Apple hardware from there (no sales tax!). Born & raised in SE Michigan.

Some mp3s are winging their way to you.

For the record, I’m from SE Ohio but my mother was adamant that we kids not display some of the more characteristic speech mannerisms of the area.

Tire, far, and shower don’t rhyme for me. They did for my dad.

All right then. I’ve sent Sunspace my samples.

Some more Sydney, Australia* accents bundled on their way to Sunspace.

My readings were an attempt to speak in a natural voice, rather than a formal recitation.

  • with a good helping of country NSW

Cazzle sounds like my sister. This is weird on a few levels, not least of which is she’s from Dunedin, New Zealand, and has lived there all her life.

I’ve only recently realised that all my life, during my frequent visits to the bush (and living there for a couple of years), I have done some pretty serious code shifting (or whatever it’s called): my speech slows a bit, I get a bit more ‘flat’, more traditionally Australian than my urban Sydney accent. I was going to post some samples of that, but because I’m alone in a city flat, I’d be too conscious of it, and it probably wouldn’t come out right.

Strange, I get asked if I’m Scottish or English  I guess that’s what I get for trying to make sure people understand my somewhat softer voice.

My voice also changes slightly depending on the audience - I suppose everyone does. At work, I talk to a range of different types of people and adapt to suit. The recordings I made were as natural as I could be.

Your voice sounds like a radio voice compared to mine. When I listen back to me, I sound more stereotypically Aussie that I thought I did - nearly as bad as Julia Gillard.

Jeff Foxworthy, yo.

You know, upon hearing the sound of your voice, I could definitely see you doing voice recordings for Hemingway novels on CD/MP3.

Emailed my and Acid Lamp’s samples of the “Mary rarely rose at dawn…” paragraph to SunSpace.

It appears that the files are too big. :smack: We’re attempting to convert to MP3 from wav, but we’ll see. I might just make an LJ phone post to supplement it for now.

I will try to email a sample of Minnesota, to add to Inner Stickler’s file, although I have a more pronounced accent.

I didn’t know how to record on the comp, so I did a small movie, blacked out the movie, and left the audio. Sorry if it’s going to be possibly unusable, perhaps you are better at this stuff than I.

skreee THUNK

Sorry, the hinges need a little oiling. It’s just along here. Watch your step…

My! It’s unusually crowded down here! I often get a bunch of messages, but never so many with such bulk! Let’s see…

:: inspects tags ::
:: the messages shift around nervously and rustle in the dimness ::

Wow! Pushkin, antechinus, Hypnagogic Jerk, and jsgoddess! Hmm. I don’t see anything from nashiitashii yet. I’d better check the FTP server.

:: sunspace goes over to a large hopper at the side of the room. It is labeled “incoming” and is located under the end of a metal chute. ::

Nothing there.

:: there is a bong noise, and another message slides into the Inbox ::

Ah. here we are. nashiitashii’s message. I’d better get these attachments upstairs.

:: he starts to gently remove the attachments from each message, sorting them by name and placing them in a multicompartment cart labeled “Downloads” ::

+bump+ This thread deserves it.

That’s pretty surprising. I’ve never even been to NZ.

Seriously…where is frenchy?

I’ll be making another compendium post this evening after I come home from the gym. I’ve already processed all the audio except for fisha’s.

The Compendium grows!

Now included: samples from cmyk, antechinus, jsgoddess, nashiitashii, Pushkin, fisha, and Hypnagogic Jerk. fisha’s samples arrived in the form of a video (Windows WMV format), from which I extracted the audio.
The compendium:
