Does anyone know of a reasonably reliable voice activated switch I can purchase? My idea, a just for fun project, is to replace the manual garage door switch with a voice activated switch so that I can just say “open” or “close”. No real requirements here, just because it would be cool. The switch doesn’t have to carry any real current, the power to the motor is controled by a relay on the motor housing. I googled for such a switch, but most of the ones I found were either noise activated (clappers and such) or hand-held microcassette recorders. I want something I can train to a couple of words. My garage is reasonable quiet, so when I need to use it the background noise will be low. But I don’t want the door opening or closing when I am running my saw!
Thanks
If you Google “voice activated switch” you will find several from commercial units to do-it-yourself hobby stuff.
You need to worry about the current capacity of the switch. Check the door opener’s current which should be on the motor nameplate. It might be that you will need to buy a relay from Radio Shack. You would use the VA switch to close the relay and the relay would run the door mechanism. And electrician or electrical hobbyist can show you the hookup.
Thanks.
I understand about the current capacity-but there is a relay in the opener itself that is controlled by a low current contact switch. Current for the motor never flows through the contact switch. I did google for the switch. As you said there are a lot. I am hoping for some advice on which one is best for my needs. But I will take your advice and check out the ones I find.
Clap-on! Clap Off!
The Clapper™!
Or, one like it.
I owned one, & you could get it to work with a barked command.
Cheap, too.
I want to build voice-activated door with commands which are “open” and “close” . However i cannot find similar project. If you achieved find or built this circuit can you help me please?
