Voilà!

matt! Do you kiss your momma with that mouth?

That’s it, boy, right off to confession wi’ ye. And don’t think of skipping or Father Sicotte will hunt you down and feed you soap.

[sub]Jebus, Marie and little Joe and the Saints pray for the boy… [/sub]

NOW, that’s the way joual should be spelled !

Just a minor nitpick, I would have used ossties instead of “écoeurants” but it is acceptable that way.

Forfikighu kaj mortu chiuj, stultuloj.

stomps off in a huff

You wouldn’t get away with that in Callous (Calais), Maine.

Grrrr.

Wow, Niles Crane goes ballistic. Interesting.

I haven’t seen anyone this anal since that Jeff Stryker compilation video.

I’d hate to think what would happen if someone served you wine at room temperature that was meant for cellar temperature. You don’t own guns, do?

Best get ye to an anger management class, Prrr-onto.

That is, if you can fit it into your shedule.

And it might be best to stay out of Joisy until you can control your killing instinct.

Perhaps the funniest part about that is that I don’t drink wine, I can’t own guns, and I have no reason to go to New Jersey. Moving right along.

OK, how do you make the accented a on your keyboard?

I am on a Mac keyboard, if that makes any difference. I can do these things: é î ø © œ * ´® Ý ¥ ˆø * å ß · ° ¬ = ñ ç µ î ü

But where’s the a with the accent?

Yes! Thanks for asking, yosemitebabe. I was thinking about asking the same question in ATMB, but now that you’ve brought it up…

And how do we make umlauts, accent-ague and ^'s?

BossK, to keep in the spirit of this thread :
Va donc chier, pis mange un char de marde en même temps !

You can babelfish for the fucking translation, you wasted scatocephalic.

yosemitebabe, check if you have a French or a Canadian layout on your Mac. The ` accent should be available there (in French it can go either on the a, e or u).

detop, thanks, I’ll have to open one of my Mac books and see what it says about keyboards.

And I put that phrase through Babelfish. “Thus chier, worse eats a tank of marde at the same time!” Uh, I think the translation is lacking…

YB, check in your keyboard layout and choose the appropriate flag, that should do it (I have a Mac at work and we have both Mac and PC at home. I love the Mac, but I’m learning to appreciate the PC too). As for the translation, it is written in joual or Québec French slang. I doubt if babelfish would be able to provide a true translation. We are a board whose mission is to fight ignorance. Technically, BossK joined for this reason, let him do is own research for once !

If you or any other Dopers want to know the meaning, feel free to e-mail me (my address is in my profile).

“Away become fucked and die everyone, stupid people.”

Hrm … well, it lacks the flair of a good old-fashioned “Fiac^uloj! Ptuj!”, but I’ll give it a 7.

And tsk tsk tsk, I can’t believe you’re still using that old “h-postfix” convention for the circumflexes, Matt! Get with the times! (He says, touting his use of the equally antiquated “^-postfix” convention. Bah, these kids today with their "x"es. What do they know?)

I do. (Well, I have done it, but not for ages; it’s not that funny to me now. I thought it was hilarious the first time a friend of mine did it, which was about 25 years ago; now I fear it might produce a bout of on-wee.)

But for the sake of the thread, I’ll assume that the OP has heard people say ‘Viola’ in all serious pretentiousness, and so I second his rant.

PS: I use the extended character set for the occasional accents: Alt-0224 produces à (that’s hold down the Alt key and type 0224 on the numeric keypad).

Sed la h-sistemo estas zamenhofa, kara, do sufiche bonas por mi  Plue, plej naturece aspektas!

Yosemite: It may be that you have to type a “dead” accent key, followed by the accented letter. On MS Word on my PC, e.g., I type control-’ and then e to produce é. I think there is a similar process on your mac, but it’s been so long since I’ve used one that I don’t remember what it is.

VOILÀ!!!

V-fricking-oilà!!!

Thank you. That was driving me nuts. I looked a little harder at my keyboard, and figured it out. On the Mac, you press Option and the ` key (the same key that has the ~ thing) and then you press “a” right after. Voilà! You get the à!!! Works like a charm!

Thanks everyone!

Nothing to see here. Move along…

Wow, lemme guess. You’re in a biker gang, detop? HAHAHAHA

Scatocephalic? Ah, more invented words. Actually, Webster’s prefers coprophagiac. Don’t let it get you down. They probably didn’t teach Latin where you were.

*Eu nunca pensei de que sua matriz era um whore repugnante, only aquele ela era um whore terminal. *

:::Ahem:::

On mass.

:::boggle:::

tsk, tsk, tsk cazzle: You probably mean En masse, another fairly common mistake.

Umm… maybe I’m missing sarcasm, but I was boggling over the fact that people actually spell it “on mass”. I’ve seen it in print just recently. This is so hard to understand - they think it’s an English phrase??

Oh, and today I grabbed a screenshot of CNN with a headline containing the word “corageous”… what is the world coming to?
