My parents have a 1999 Volvo S70 sedan with a key fob remote control. It seems like the battery is growing weaker, because I need to be closer to the lock before it will open than I had to previously. So I told them I think it needs a new battery. Can I simply replace it with another button-type battery, or will the device need to be reprogrammed after the battery is removed?
No reprogramming necessary (assuming you don’t take the battery out and leave it out for an extended amount of time.)
IIRC you will need a tiny Phillips screwdriver to take the remote apart.
I don’t know the battery type off the top of my head, but you should be able to find it at Radio Shack (and probably borrow a screwdriver at the same time).
Many dealers will also install a battery for free in the parts department. You may pay more for the battery though.
If you really really need to know the battery type, send me an email and I will look it up on Tuesday.
My 2000 Volvo XC70 remote uses a CR2016 buton battery. When my husband’s remote died last year, I just popped the old one out and the new one in; everything worked fine.
Well there you go then, 99s and 2000 70 series cars used the same remote, so a CR2016 should be just what you need.
Yeah, I just have one of those engraving/watch repair/shoe repair places in the mall do it when I am shopping.
2002 V70. Love it.
Thanks for the information. We’ll replace the battery today.
