Voodoo Daddy has Ashlee Simpson moment.

Anyone watch halftime of the “can’t remember the name” Bowl yesterday?

Let me describe it for you:

The announcers announce, “and now, grammy award winning, platinum album selling Big Bad Voodoo Daddy” and they start “playing” their instruments in an intro.

Well, 3 or 4 of them step up to the mic and start singing, only. . .no voices are coming out. I figure, “hmmm, mic problems.”

Cut to the drummer. Oh, voices start.

Cut back to the singers, and they’re all standing about 4 feet from the mics playing their instruments while the singing is going on. The lead singer kind of smiles and shrugs.

Cut to dancing girls. Cut to commercial.

They come back from break and the announcer announces, “and now, grammy award winning, platinum album selling Big Bad Voodoo Daddy”. They got it right the second time.

Jesus guys, if you’re going to lip synch, at least know what you’re playing.

The dancing girls with the fake trumpets looked more professional.

Didn’t see it, but that’s too bad. I like BBVD. Things like this cheapen their talent.

Our own Big Bad Voodoo Lou will be crushed!

Meh, from what I’ve read those big-stadium appearances are almost always synched. It has less to do with lack of talent on the performer and far more to do with it being so damned difficult to get the set up to work in such a huge stadium on a temporary rig. The sound is off, then it travels at different rates around the arena, and the montors are off, you get echoes, can’t hear yourself. It’s just easier to mime it to a tape.

I swear I had nothing to do with it!

But in their defense, I’ve seen Big Bad Voodoo Daddy live in concert in a small, intimate club, and I can guarantee that all the vocals and instruments were live that night. They’re a tight and talented band (as most of those late-'90s swing and jump blues acts were), and I’m glad they’re still gigging around. Please don’t hold that stadium performance against them too much.

I’m not holding it against them. I do realize that for any kind of performance like that, they have to tape it. They have a few hundred people dancing to it. It’s weeks in the planning.

Let’s just say, they just looked mighty mighty foolish when it was happening.

I think that was the Outback Bowl (Wisconsin vs Auburn) in Orlando. Saw the same thing. Was LMAO - horn sounds without horns being played WTF??
