Vote for me in 2004 for president! *I approve this message*

A friend and I have a bet to see who would get the most write in votes for the november presidential election. I need to assemble an election team… whos in?!

What a silly waste of time, energy and votes. Here’s a thought, why don’t you and your friend take some of that time and energy and educate yourselves on which actual candidate you want to vote for and use your vote to attempt to get your candidate into office?

Ah yes…Carbondale, Illinois…appears they still have some good weed floating through Trueblood dorms Johnnyt27.

But I have to agree with Otto on this one…geez, when I went to SIU, it was the hotbed of political activity. Now, it seems it is just a hot bed…oh well.

Pet a Saluki for me.

Yeah, that’s exactly what the thousands of soldiers who died for your rights and freedoms were hoping would become of democracy.

Way to defame the dead.

Out of sheer curiousity, what did you guys bet?

Don’t let the naysayers get you down! Like they say, if voting could change anything it’d be illegal. You might as well have some fun while the folks at Diebold help get Dubya re-“elected.”

I’m sorry, but I’ve already committed my write-in vote to Unca Cece. He should be a great candidate for the job now that he’s drunk on the power of having almost 4,000 Charter Members.

huh?

It seems to me that people exploring the political system is a good thing.

Anyway at the risk of having someone ask a question here in GQ, I’ll ask what I thought the OP was about in the first place.

What’s the deal with the “I approve this message”? Is it some new law I’m not aware of, or one person did it, now everyone is doing it?

Part of the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform law requires that federal candidates state explicitly that they approve messages/commercials circulated in their names. Some of the candidates have taken it and run with it; “I approve this message because…” and then they lay out some reason or other at builds on the ad.

did anyone know otto’s email has ACLU in it? I guess that explains a lot. I’m sure most of us have fun with college jokes… I’m living it up. It’s too bad jokes are taken so seriously sometimes… Hey Otto, I’m actually president of the SIU College republicans! I guess the ACLU thing is why you decided to go against me. So in response to you… i AM involved and making a difference.

its sad when things are taken so seriously sometimes. :smack:

Oh… well in that case… Yes you should vote for yourself!

Actually I just changed it because I may be changing DSL providers and the old email address is tied to the current provider. What exactly does my previous affiliation with the ACLU message boards explain about why I think the idea of writing oneself in for president instead of finding out about the candidates and making an informed decision is a bad one?

Ah. So you posted something for no other reason than to elicit a reaction.
