Vote for your favorite Lynyrd Skynyrd song.

The first song that pops into my head whenever I think of this band is “What’s your name…little girl? What’s your name?”

I listened to One More From the Road more than anything. Loved Working for MCA; a Southern version of Floyd’s Have a Cigar. Also love Whiskey Rock n’ Roller - just good boogie.

The movie “20 Feet From Stardom” was about backup singers. One of the people featured was Merry Clayton, a well-known gospel and backup vocalist. She was asked to perform on the Sweet Home Alabama track, but balked because of the name of the song. She was asked to read the lyrics and talk to the band about what they were saying, and agreed to do it, much to all our benefit.

Ditto. When I saw the poll I jumped on it so I could vote for this.

I love, love, love “Simple Man”. I don’t care for any of their other songs.

I don’t really like the band’s style, HOWEVER I am not in any way saying they are bad. Just not my style. NOW, IF say I go to the jukebox and my wife requests some skynyrd, I usually find myself playing “That Smell” (which I voted for) or “Gimme Three Steps”.

I like Skynyrd quite a lot, but Simple Man is my favorite. My husband loved Three Steps and if there was a runner-up, I’d pick Saturday Night Special. However, I don’t think there’s any I’m not a fan of, except maybe That Smell. I once saw someone diss a poor girl by dedicating it to her.

Caught Up in You.
What?

It had been awhile since I heard these. I watched them on YouTube and really enjoyed revisiting them again. Great songs

Things going on

So I’m going to vote for Free Bird. Yes it’s overplayed but it’s still awesome, especially the the three minute three guitar “solo” at the end.

My favorite video is from Knebworth (UK) 1976 (a year before, you know…) when they preceded the Stones. No one was supposed to venture out on the “tongue” catwalk part of the stage except the Stones. Yeah, Ronnie said to hell with that, we gotta get close to the crowd. And the crowd loved it.

I Know A Little

That’s a great song. I used to love playing that little pull-off riff.

That is my favorite cover by them and the best version of the song I’ve heard. For original tune I voted Curtis Lowe. I wore out my cassette of Second Helping.

Hands down “Gimme Three Steps”. One of my all-time favorite rock songs.

Wow, your list is too short (and a bit lame, too :)). Those boys had a lot more talent than can be shown in the songs you have there.

“I Ain’t the One” from the* Pronounced…* album. Right out of the box… a hard-hitting, wonderful piece.

Then there’s “Honky Tonk Night Time Man”. Another great (though it is a Merle song, so may not “count”).

How `bout, “Every Mother’s Son”? “Cry For the Bad Man”? “All I Can Do Is Write About It”?

I voted other.

I Know a Little is my favorite Skynyrd tune.

Last original recording member. Larry Junstrom was the founding bassist for the first six-seven years of the band pre-recording contract. Went on to play with 38 Special with Van Zant’s younger brother for ~40 years. He’s still kicking, apparently.

As for LS I…honestly can’t listen to them much anymore. Overexposure in my youth. Like the Eagles I pretty much will always change the radio station if they come on it ( which they do less so these days ), especially fucking Freebird. But I did love them back in the day, particularly that second album. It would either be Sweet Home Alabama or Call Me the Breeze as favorites.

Sadly dysfunctional group apparently, even before the tragedies. But then I guess so many of those classic rock bands were.

“What song is it you wanna hear?”
