OK, I’m hoping this will stay a GQ thread but I’m prepared for it to turn into a GD or Pit thread, depending on how the wind blows.
We’ve all heard the reports of intimidation of black voters in Florida, and of Republican organizations that had voter registration drives in a few states (including Nevada) and destroyed voter registration forms of Democrats instead of turning them in. Apparently, it is not illegal to do this, however…
Last night I was listening to the only non-right wing radio talk show in the Las Vegas area, and a caller called in to report that Rebublican operatives here in Vegas were going into minority neighborhoods and distributing doorhangers “informing” people that their polling place had been moved, which apparently had the effect of misdirecting people so that they never found their polls and voted.
My question is this.
If it could be conclusively demonstrated that the 'Pubbies used intimidation and deception to keep minority voters, who tend overwhelmingly to vote Democrat, and the deliberate destruction of Democratic voter registration forms (not illegal, but still a deceptive tactic, the folks who filled them out had a reasonable expectation that the forms would be turned in to their county election office), could the election results be overturned and, after a period of time in which those whose registration form had been destroyed could properly register (apparently in many states, provisional ballots are only counted if the vote count is too close to call), a new election held so that all those who were eligible and desired to vote could do so?
