Voyeuristic? Yeah, but still kind of addictive, and even interesting

Do this:

Go here

Find the button on the top right labeled “Recent”.

Click that and you get what looks like the various photos most recently updated by Photobucket users. It refreshes pretty much constantly.

It’s a fascinating (mildly so, but still) glimpse into other people’s personal pictures. Find one that looks interesting and you can link to their entire album. There is every sort of photo there - drunken teens and college kids at parties, concert shots, groups of family and friends, vacation pics, pets, you name it. Some people over the last couple weeks were posting pictures they took while at the Olympics.

Even some homemade porn once in a while. I guess there isn’t a way to filter those from showing up on the “recent” posts, but whatever - there they are.

I do this to kill time once in a while. Part of me says 'feel like a slimy voyeur". But part of me says “hey, they posted these on the freaking internet, it’s fair game to look at them, right?”

It is, right?

publicly posted ones, for people with open albums?

Right. I don’t know if people whose albums are not public get their pictures in the “recent” lists.

some mild testing (30 random albums) seemed to be public albums (which I think is also the default, arrgh!).

In the city where I lived as child a photo lab placed a machine in the window in such a way that you had a paper version of this.

Hmmm - someone’s been to Budapest recently…

Grim

There’s a similar function for LiveJournal. I don’t have the link here at work because it’s wildly unsafe.

Because our IT people are incredibly anal and see only in straight lines, everyone here, administrators included, are blocked from Live Journal, MySpace, Xanga and the like, so I can’t see that from here.

Minor rant: The principals raise almighty hell when they got blocked from those sites. Seems they used them as back-door sources to keep an eye on some of their students.

I will now rename my ‘refresh browser’ button to ‘I want to see ugly babies’ button.

Flickr has a similar feature here, and one for “interesting” photos here. Much fun.

Okay… I am SO getting a nicer digital camera! Some of these photos are really inspiring.

I am strangely fascinated.

Great. Another way for me to waste time checking out other people’s pictures. I especially like the “interesting” link. Some good stuff there.

I did NOT need to see the guy taking pictures of himself in diapers. MY EYES!

Lots of people seem to be selling things on eBay.

Here’s the link to the LJ stuff… take out the spaces around the slashes, as I didn’t want this to be a direct link:

It’s Goth Barbie!
