I purchased a certified pre owned 2013 Passat two years ago with only 25k miles on it. I just reached 60,000 miles and the car overheated. Took it to dealer next morning. They have replaced water pump, thermostat, radiator, and still overheated. They stated black goo was clogging up engine and they may have to replace. They are insinuating that radiator stop leak was used in the car. I took it in two days prior to the overheating because the coolant light came on and they found the reservoir had a crack. They replaced it. My question is what can cause all of this, as they describe it, black goo in the engine? I have had all of my service done at the dealership including all oil changes on time. I only have them put in the recommended synthetic oil, but have no idea what the previous owners used in the car. The car has been running fine, but I have noticed the fan running for longer periods of time over the past 6 months, but it never went over 160 degrees on the temp gauge.
