Wacky velodrome pic: origin?

A friend sent me this picture.

It is a velodrome (?) featuring an old motorcycle and a car with a lion in its sidecar.

Using TinEye I’ve found 112 instances of the picture. I haven’t looked at all 112, but the ones I have looked at have no real information. I’m wondering if anyone knows the story behind it. Circus? Movie stunt? Crazed thrill seekers? Frat initiation?

Cracked has an article that used that picture. It seems like it was from a traveling circus like show.

Thanks, dude! That was super quick!!!

I’d say it’s more likely a ‘wall of death

I don’t think it is a velodrome (which is normally used for bicycle racing, and has curved sides). I think it is a “wall of death” from a fairground or circus, normally used for motorcycle stunt riding shows.

I can’t tell you anything about the particular picture, but it just seems like a particularly extreme example of a regular “wall of death” type of show.

ETA:  Ninja’d by Mangetout.

It would be a way cooler picture if it was a tiger instead of a lion.

Having never heard of a “wall of death” I was feeling pretty good pulling “velodrome” outa my ass. As it were.

Not quite what you wanted, but maybe this was done after the ride:

It was a good extraction - the web site that gazpacho linked to calls it a “Lion Drome.”

A giraffe would be more impressive than either.

Wicked whiplash if he crashed though.

Reverse Image Search on Google, for future reference, although I saw it on Cracked, too.

True, we could try an elephant instead, but that’s starting to get a little unrealistic.

So where can I get a copy of this awesome pic?

A giraffe’s head would be a lot closer to the centre of the circle and it wouldn’t feel nearly as much g there as the at rest of its body. It might almost feel as though its head was floating up.
