The Hell’s Angels control much of the drug trade in Canada, and fairly routinely get into murderous wars with rival groups like the Rock Machine. I suppose that’s going corporate after a fashion.
I’ve read plenty of articles, and somewhere in the ninth or tenth does it actually say that there was some kind of “Bike Night” event that the cops had asked the restaurant to call off.
Sorry if I made my earlier statement based on the first six articles I read; it’s not my fault the reporters can’t string together decent articles! Most of the ones I read just said the cops had warned the restaurant, and that they didn’t comply, which implies to me, that they wanted the restaurant to run off the bikers themselves.
I understand the last thing said right before the fit hit the shan was:

I couldn’t help it. The first thing I thought of was the poor schlep who they made do all the paperwork.
They did have cops in place. They were able to contain the incident quite well. But they weren’t on the private property until the fight started. That’s the whole no cooperation part. The restaurant management could have banned colors from the establishment like many do. They could have had the cops kick everyone out. They could have done a lot of things. Instead they wanted the paying customers.
Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs are very active but it is a regional thing. The Bandidos were involved and they are a top level OMG meaning they have no more powerful gang that they are affiliated with. A couple of the other OMGs involved are affiliated with the Hells Angels. HA has multiple gangs across the country that they use as farm teams. They are much better at imaging but are still deeply entrenched in criminal activity.
We attended a wedding in West Saturday afternoon. Afterward, just after we got on I35 and headed North, I saw two bikers in colors I didn’t recognize (Cossacks?) and I thought it was odd. The I-35 corridor is where I’ve seen the Bandidos most often. They were headed North, away from Waco.
I doubt Janet Reno was running things this time.
I guess the police can’t simply lock the entire lot of them up in a single confined area and let the gangs do their best at killing each other off.

Not exactly. The place has regular bike nights so its known to about everyone on two wheels as being somewhat friendly. It’s also in an area where several clubs overlap. This was a known and planned thing (a peace conference to discuss territory and recruiting) and the cops were aware well enough in advance to ask the restaurant to try to make it “not happen”. And to have a herd of cops on hand. What spark set it off we may never know but at least 5 different 1%-type clubs were present; three basically as peace-makers.

A question people are asking on some other boards. Especially since a couple people without bikes or ties to any of this have reported seeing officers with weapons out and ready when all Hell broke loose. I want to see the pic first but something in all this isn’t adding up to me.
Everything is bigger in Texas. Including holding cells and stupidity apparently.
Assuming none of the fatalities and casualties were innocent bystanders my only complaint is that more morons didn’t die or get hurt.

From listening to the news today, Waco PD had about 20 officers at the place at the time. Some of those nine shot were shot by the police.

The clubs are bigger than ever but there is a sort of pecking order; even in 1%ers. The biggies will let some small groups and semi-pretenders operate within their territories (think “Devils Ride”) but if someone gets too big or too big an attitude all bets are off. Much of the warfare is done out of sight and away from “civilians” and the law. But like the flare-up in Vegas, exceptions do happen.
If you are into that sort of club and your leadership calls for it you do it. Smart or not. You don’t and a stint behind bars (assuming your lawyers doesn’t get you off – and the big clubs have VERY good lawyers) will be the least of your concerns.
I’m pro intelligence and believe Darwin does good work.
