Mmmm Waffle House, we need some of those around here. Scattered All The Way with a side of grits and a cup of coffee please.
The first time I had them topped was an absolute revelation. That pretty much became a must-have instantly. I generally will get them chunked as well, but if I’m in the mood to watch my pennies, then I might not bother.
Smothered, covered, chunked, and diced. Then I apply the Tobasco.
Ironically, I don’t think I’ve ever actually had waffles at a Waffle House. Omelets usually, sometimes scrambled eggs or Texas melts, but never waffles.
Chunked and peppered sounds pretty good. Or perhaps just chunked with hot sauce on the side. I’ve never been to a Waffle House.
Ooo… I"ve only once been to a Waffle House. I didn’t realize there were so many choices.
I’d go for regular, smothered, covered, chunked, and peppered.
Large and smothered, nice and crispy please.
The nearest Waffle House is about an 800 mile drive away. Do they have drone delivery?
Is that true?
Large
“Scattered on the grill AND diced, peppered, and topped.”
I have also had it just country style. Which is excellent too.
There are two problems: 1) The nearest Waffle House is 2 hours away and 2) My wife won’t eat there when we travel.
So it’s been a while since I had any of the hashbrowns at all.
Sigh.
Now I’m all hungry.
In my one-and-only Waffle House experience (dove hunting in Eloy, Arizona), it is true. They’re very big on the use of oleo in all its manifest carnations.
They aren’t in my area. I consider it a mercy. But hey, we like what we like. ![]()
Scattered, with ketchup. Period.
If I want more, I’ll get a hash brown bowl with eggs, sausage and cheese.
WH hash browns are so good, I don’t need a lot of other crap in them.
FWIW, I grew up in the little suburb of Atlanta (Avondale Estates) where the first Waffle House opened when I was five years old. The son of the founder was a grammar school classmate of mine. I’ve been chowing down at Waffle House for 63 years. It hasn’t changed a whole lot.
Scattered and crispy.
There’s no Waffle House near me and that makes me sad.
Scattered, smothered and covered. And ya gotta say it in that order; sounds weird, otherwise.
Fun fact: the very first Waffle House ever is about two miles from my house. It’s now a museum, open one weekend a month. I went once; it’s interesting.
Not only is it not butter, it’s not even high-quality margarine. Like, the food coloring isn’t even mixed in evenly. Blech!
And don’t get me started on the brown sugar-water. I mean, I get that it’s a cheap place and I shouldn’t be expecting real maple, but at least cook it down into a syrup!
As for my hash browns: A regular, scattered and crisped, smothered and capped.
I’d order it covered, but what are the chances any dairy was involved in the creation of that “cheese”?
Regular, scattered and crisped, Covered and smothered.
Never been, but I might try it now that I know they offer sausage gravy, which I only see in the South and the West.
There’s exactly one on the road between NYC and Chicago, off US 80 in East Ohio, near Youngstown.
You also have a few in the Toledo area if you’re going 80 west all the way.
There are almost 2000 Waffle Houses in the U.S., and the closest one to me is 1200 miles away.
Ghoddammit.
Come, come to the South side, padawan. We have Waffle House and Krispy Kreme and Chic-fil-A. Almost makes it worth the hypertension, diabetes, and homophobia.
tripled and all the way lol
