Wait... what happened to Lexicon?

i’m not a happy guy in general, life sucks.

think what you like.

and who are you again?

haha!

Sigh.

Will no one remove this stone from my shoe?

Goodbye, John0.

Nope, Izzy. As near as I can tell, it could easily be referring to Veb.

Not that it matters.

i suspect it’s somewhat because they used to ban people for stronger offences that acutally had it coming. now they ban for lesser offences errrr you could say they have a tougher policy, i suppose.

anyhow, they used to ban people that were major jerks and annoyances and they would get shunned (naturally). now they ban for lesser offense, but yet the trend is still the same–they get shunned.

i’m probably wrong though, because 1) i get on government worker’s nerves… 2) i have a low post count and 3) - because i take minority stances.

FRANCESCA, are you seriously unclear on why he was banned?

I haven’t seen this mentioned yet, but is it possible the person that broke into the boards a week or two ago -and took the passwords of all of us users- came back as Lexicon?

I don’t know if it’s possible, with the steps the board took after the hack, but it occurs to me this may not be the Lexicon we all know of. Partly because of the obviousness of the banning, and partly because he came after me this same only a few days ago in the pit.

After a reasonable, non-confrontational post in a relatively tame thread, he adds some jabs to me completely out of the blue.

If we were bashing each other, I could see it. But back then, it was so out-of-the-blue, and odd, that I couldn’t make sense of the jab then or now.

I mean, I don’t know about anyone else, but that’s not the Lexicon I remember.

Cite? Oh, and define “had it coming.”

Cite?

Cite?

Cite?

Errr, you brought the government thing up.

So? What the fuck difference have you deluded yourself into thinking that makes?

No, because you whine, piss, and moan.

I second the motion. Fuck off.

John487, you’re going to have to explain a few things here, because, well, I’m not entirely sure if English is your primary language.

The offences had it coming?

I think I get that, but what’s with the “errrr”. You having a seisure? You need some help?

Who get’s shunned? And why? What? Who? Huh?

Actually, the answer is - 4) none of the above. You’re wrong because you’re an idiot.

Now if they’ll only tighten up the rules a little more and start banning people for not using capitalization - oh what a happy day that’ll be.

“Clearly”? Hardly. I’ve read it three or four times now, and I can’t see any way to interpret it except in refernce to Veb.

Frankly, it’s nice to see someone remembers exactly what this thread is supposed to be about. My boobs. Remember?? What a bunch of hijacking idjits, all of you.

Cold, you’ll have to buy yourself a bike and bring it overseas to NY with you. I’ll take whatever pics you like on it

Zette

No, and I’m in full agreement with his banning - a line was very clearly crossed. The point I was making, albeit obscurely, was that your implication that his threat would have been okay if he’d couched it in terms you’re more happy with, is not reasonable. As MH said, it doesn’t matter whether you say rectal-cranial inversion or that he had his head stuck up his ass, the intention behind your message is clear. You can be polite or you can be blunt but to pretend that couching an insult in “better” language makes it less offensive doesn’t sit well with me.

like being an ‘over the top’ jerk, everyone can be jerks on occasion. ever had a bad day at work?

errr, you have anything better to say?

i don’t think it makes a difference but a few have mentioned it, so it sounds like it makes a difference to some.

The word of the day for andros is–Sarcasm.

:moving along:

i came in here reasonable enough, i didn’t start slinging the shit. you’re the one pissing because you haven’t really said anything ‘noteworthy’ in this thread.

hey - you’re entitled to your opinion.

Zette,

Woohoo!! Errr, ahem. Let’s not get distracted now. This is about us Nazi Mods banning people for nothing, after all.

'Course, we’d never ban anyone with a good rack.

Are you honestly of the opinion that if you had a bad day at work, you can take out your frustrations on others? I don’t see long-term romantic relationships in your future, lessen you find yourself a good old-fashioned self-loathing masochist.

Sua

Holy crap. I just read through that thread.

no, i don’t think it’s an excuse for being a jerk, but it happens. if you look around at the pit you’ll see a lot of people coming here to vent out their daily frustrations. or am i wrong?

FRANCESCA –

A thousand pardons for having posted something that didn’t sit well with you. Allow me to clarify:

  1. I took MH’s question of whether it would be “okay” to mean “okay with me,” i.e., not have offended me, since it was, y’know, directed at me (both the insult and MH’s question). The answer to that is "yeah, it would have been okay with me, because in light of my arguably semantic post, him responding in a similar vein would have struck me as both appropriate and amusing – “touche,” in other words. (Wish I knew how to do the accent thingy.) It is entirely reasonable for me to both think this and say this, since it is, after all, my opinion.

  2. Whether or not what he posts is “okay” has nothing to do with how it strikes me. I am not a moderator. I do not make the decisions of what is “okay” or not around here, if by “okay” you mean “appropriate.” I can only answer whether it would have been okay with me (not offensive to me). (I’ll repeat, for that matter, that it was okay with me, in the sense that I wasn’t offended by it.) Whether his comment was “okay” in any larger sense is not for me to say, and I have never tried to assert that it is. That’s why the mods get paid the big bucks.

  3. I’m not big on “pretending” and not big on being told I have done so. I know exactly what I said; I know exactly what I meant. I did not, particularly, intend my initial comment as a personal insult though, as I have said, I can see how it would be construed that way. (In which case – To the Pit!) I have never said a sentiment becomes less offensive if “couched” a different way – that was not the question MH asked nor the question I answered. All of which has nothing to do with why LEXICON was banned, since, as you yourself appear to realize, it was not his “suck my dick” comment that got him banned. Would his “cheers, bitch” comment have not resulted in a banning if more humorously put? Dunno. Ask VEB.

I hope your assumption regarding my opinion sits easier with you know that you know it’s neither what I said nor what I meant.

Actually, I was wondering the same thing myself. He always seemed a bit confrontational, but nothing of that sort.

Of course, it could just be an old-fashioned meltdown…

And what a classic rumpus that was, even if it was really supposed to be about Satan. http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=7676

Please note, this was over a year and a half ago, and things were different then. And Alphagene wasn’t a moderator. Nor were John Corrado or TVeblen.

Interesting quote from that thread, by Lexicon: “Hey Val. When I want you to open your mouth I’ll tell you to suck my dick.” So if was being framed, someone’s done their research. Actually, much of the same attitude towards women can be seen there, which somehow was hidden behind the facade of an intelligent and likeable guy for the past 18 months or so. I liked that lex, but apparently it wasn’t the real one.

So saying to someone “that’s complete drek you dork” is the same as saying “thats complete shit you dick”? Yes, the dictionary definitions are the same, but certainly think one is more socially acceptable than the other.
